I am assuming this is a talk about anything thread. This is going to be great fun to watch if it works but I am afraid a lot of guys are going to be afriad to pass now so it will become wrestling.

Eddie Bravo has announced that up kicks will now be legal in combat jiu-jitsu matches.

The announcement comes after months of speculation when Bravo first revealed that he was working on commission approval. He was quoted in a 2017 Jiu Jitsu Times article, saying:

I’m working on getting upkicks allowed, gonna run it by the commission. Some competitors were feeling too comfortable standing over their opponent who was in open guard. Allowing upkicks will force the guy standing to get down and pass the guard. Again, cjj is all about Jiu Jitsu. The strikes weren’t added for tkos, they were added to open up submissions.
He made the announcement on Joe Rogan’s Fight Companion podcast on Sunday. Is this really an effort to keep jiu-jitsu honest?
I like it, but they should allow punches on the ground as well, then. That keeps people from closing guard, and stalling as well.

Calling it Combat Jiu Jitsu makes sense, and separates it from regular sport Jiu Jitsu.

cliffs: Eddie feels inadequate about never fighting

post-cliffs: Plum wine, I've been missing out all these years because I don't love plums. Big mistake.

How do you feel about splitting headaches?

The movie, not the natural disaster/submission. It's Bill Paxton's acting. Not his best flick.

LOL. I just watched Aliens again. God damn, I love him in that role. True Lies is the only thing better, imo.

The rules allow for open palm strikes on the ground already. We train them twice a week at my gym

Oh, I didn't realize that. Nice.

The open palm is a bit of a concession to the CA athletic commission. They believe closed fist would make it pro mma and then events would be required to pay the 250k for the license. Open palm is okay as a martial arts event and let's you not have to deal with the commission.

I don't mean to be a dick to Eddie Bravo for trying to innovate, but he does know that Japan went through this whole grappling-based MMA evolution chain about 30 yeas ago, yeah?

I have said the same thing but I like the rule set so I am not going to complain. I am pretty good friends with Ritchie (Boogieman) who is one of his black belts so I am thinking about trying it out next time they have a heavyweight tounry.

It's coming @Jack V Savage . We must join forces to save humanity.

@senri

Never!

Seriously, I hate traffic cams because I think exceeding posted speed limits and running very fresh red lights are kind of OK in most circumstances and the cameras don't discriminate. Something like this doesn't worry me as much. I should also say that I'm pretty much a technological pessimist (not in the sense of opposing progress but in the sense of expecting the rate of progress to continue to slow).
