I still have a hard time understanding why Trump believes publishing this interview somehow makes him look good?

Sketch is actually hundreds of years old. He's a yeti from Tibet who got bored of tea and mountains so he decided to craft a skin suit sewn from numerous Chinamen in order to sneak away to a new land.
He came over to North America with the Chinese railroad workers. After eating his fill of laborers he became homesick so he fled to the mountains in Canada. He hibernated till the 1980s in a cave and woke up to start drafting plans to sow discourse among the humans.
His plans hit a snag when he met the love of his life and decided to settle down. When he's not busy raising yeti human hybrids, he spends his free time trolling karate forums as an outlet for his overwhelming desire to fuck with humans.

Hmmm I think middle class just designates a financial class whereas working class designates a labor class. There is significant overlap, but retired persons can be middle class and not working class, for example. And there can be working poor who are working class but not middle class.

In the context of this election I feel as though the elderly/retired are the big group that’s more likely to swing away from Trump and so targeting them with “middle class” just makes sense.

That's fair. I honestly just think it's classist language. "Middle class" inherently leaves out the working poor, and the "middle class" doesn't need to protecting more than poor people do.

I guess that's my loopy drunken logic.
