Growing up as a kid in the 80's we were always trying to make our own ninja weapons since we were too poor to order them ourselves from the back of martial arts magazines.

Nunchucks - hurt myself a lot

Cat Claws - hurt myself a lot

Giant Rambo knife I begged my parents to buy me - somehow didnt hurt myself

Grappling hook - hurt myself a lot

3 section staff - omg the hurts
That sums up the 80's pretty well. Black belt magazine generation.

Fmr Jaguars linebacker arrested for unlawful sexual activity with minors.

I posted it in the Sports Bar but I gotta bring it here to ask... what is with the rich and powerful chasing minors? Like, you have so much money you could have primo call girls (or guys if that's your thing) like 3 times a week why are you chasing minors?

This is good advice for recreational substances generally. Using them to medicate/distraction can be a trap, although the consequences with weed are smaller than for alcohol, etc
I unfortunately have first hand experience with using weed as a crutch for depression and I cannot say I recommend it.

You wanna get clubbed by a sawed off bat or what ?

I had to have a butterfly knife after seeing that movie and my grandma gave no shits and got me one. Man things were different back then. This is the same grandma that gave a first grader use your illusion 1. Here you go 10 year old kid heres an obviously dangerous ninja/gangster weapon for you to go play with ..... and no one got hurt but me and not even badly cuz you learn quick when screwing up hurts.

I bet lots of young ass kids had real nunchucks back then too.
I still have part of my sword collection. I took it down when I started using that room for video conferences. And it was almost all better than Dominick Cruz's mall ninja stuff.

I was probably at the tail end of that being ok. The last year of high school I was reported by a "concerned parent" for having a facebook picture posing with an "edged weapon"

Im considering buying a real one now that I can afford it. Some historical swords "only" cost a couple hundred bucks (even less for replicas), and I really like the later infantry patterns used in europe (Italian) (british).

Depressants for depression is never a long term answer.

It's the same question I had when Darren Sharper was out there raping people.

Like you're not a bad looking dude, you're a millionaire, you can literally point out where you got significant playing time, hell you got a Super Bowl ring to wear, WHY IN THE FUCK ARE YOU OUT THERE RAPING PEOPLE?

Is it not enough to have at will access to the top 1% of women? You gotta take the pussy too to feel good about it? I swear, these dudes are dumbshits.

It has me doing the In Bruges painting reaction gif EVERY time.

I think there's no doubt all the WR geniuses have moved to the Great Beyond,
Yeah, this is objectively wrong. Flattening the curve does not refer to reducing the total number of infections. It refers to slowing down the rate of infections. The number of infections will be the same, but they will happen over a longer period of time, thus reducing the strain on medical facilities. It's a good goal, but it is much more limited than reducing the total number of infections.

No doubt you've seen the famous graphs illustrating the concept. If not, here's an example:
kprY6iosupNFc6CXYEvQAG-650-80.jpg

A key feature of such graphs you might have missed is that it's the same amount of people infected in both curves. The flat curve continues for much longer than the sharp curve. The sharp curve is bad because it overwhelms the response, but it's better in a very limited sense because it also ends much more quickly. That's what experts predicted and intended with the shut down, that it would draw out the spread of the pandemic, not reduce it in absolute terms. Once we are passed the peak, and most of the US is, then the shut down no longer makes sense. The only realistic goal of the shutdown was not overwhelming hospitals. And we did that. Yes, people will continue to get infected and even die from the coronavirus for weeks and possibly months. The shut down is not something experts expect will reduce those numbers appreciably.

If these models are true, and they are the ones that suggested shutting stuff down in the first place, then there is currently very little to gain from the shut down, meanwhile the cost is growing very heavy.
I will need more than your word for it to accept your assertion that "it's the same amount of people infected in both curves". You're not the first person to assert this on the forum but I've seen no science to back it up. For example, there is no demonstrable reason to believe current data suggests that my home province, for example, will experience the same total number of cases regardless. We've had zero deaths, only one new case in the past 12 days and that is from foreign travel. Continued vigilance until testing is ubiquitous will absolutely limit the total number of infections.

https://www.livescience.com/coronavirus-flatten-the-curve.html Key quote: "A flatter curve, on the other hand, assumes the same number of people ultimately get infected, but over a longer period of time. A slower infection rate means a less stressed health care system, fewer hospital visits on any given day and fewer sick people being turned away."

It's a concept that has been gone over a lot in the daily US press conferences etc. If you aren't from the US, perhaps it's a less familiar concept there.

So you include a a quote that actually uses the word assumes, with no evidence that such an assumption is valid even though you're replying to my post requesting evidence that such an assumption is valid. Way to go.
Now, can anyone else provide any actual data that says we'll have the same number of sick people only over a longer time even with testing and eventual vaccine?
Intuitively, that sounds like a pretty sloppy assumption and the actual real life situation in PEI says it's bonkers, but this isn't the first time I've seen this claim so I'd like to know if I've got it wrong.

Depends on the individual, it can hit all the boxes: depressant, stimulant, hallucinogen.
So, no? Alcohol literally depresses autonomic function. Consume enough alcohol and your brain will forget to make your heart beat. Does pot do that?

We got our shit at harrys army surplus for stupid cheap prices. Mom i need this rambo survival knife for cubscouts. What if i get lost in the woods camping . I think i bashed my brains in trying to twirl a knightstick like the bossman on a few occasions.
Its got everything I need to survive! Compass, 3 matches, rope saw....

If someone would make a proper quality version of that I'd but it today.

I never compared it to alcohol.

And treating depression with alcohol is also not a good idea.

Never had my own growing up but my wife bought me a nice one for Xmas last year.

Did you walk around the rest of the day humming... born with a hatchet and a juggalo face ? Or tell her that you are a circus ninja southwest voodoo wizard ?

You said it's a depressant. That has a pretty distinct meaning from "it can leave you feeling a little bummed out".
I said treating depression with depressants isn't an answer. Nowhere in there did I say that it's worse than alcohol. Weed is unique in that it can fit into numerous categories, and affects different people differently. I'm not anti weed, I was pro legalization long before Trudy campaigned on it. Not for my own use, but so that people don't come into contact with the criminal justice system for using something that has very little societal harm attached to it (once you remove the black market/criminal enterprise aspect of it).

That being said I'm not of the opinion that it's a wonder drug that will cure everything for everyone, like some people are. I don't think any drug is the answer for depression. Proper counselling and a strong support system are the best answers imo, but I'm no professional.
