A prisoner is challenging an Australian state’s ban on prisoners eating Vegemite, claiming in a court suit that withholding the polarising yeast-based spread breaches his human right to "enjoy his culture as an Australian".

The delicious spread has been banned in prisons in four states for two reasons. Firstly the product contains yeast yeast and authorities fear it could be used for brewing alcohol. Secondly the scent could put off drug detection dogs.

lol how bad is the oversight of inmates in Australian prisons if they could establish a bew op without it being detected by the guards?
 
I sometimes find it funny how the same people who denounce capitalism for being greedy and putting profits over people are also the ones who defend big pharma and say you’re a conspiracy theorist if you think that too many kids are on antidepressants.

What same people? Those are two separate arguments. Is over-prescribing an issue? Probably. Is the root cause malfeasence by doctors or the undue influnce of pharmceutical companies?

Precisely what are these people doing that constitutes "defending big pharma?

Incidentally, the main ones putting profits over people are for-profit healthcare and for-profit prisons. Pharma is murky because they spend a lot of money researching and testing drugs, often on spec and having no idea if they will come to fruition, and that costs needs to be recouped to remain profitable. Further, they have only a limited time before a generic version is produced. Are they still over-priced often. Sure. But again, is that evidence for the cause of over-prescription of drugs to kids?

Gave you the like but FTFY. I'd bet most of those people aren't defending the companies themselves though but the benefits of modern medicine. It would be ideal if nobody needed antidepressants or vaccines but that doesn't mean they don't have a positive impact or that those kids would be better off without their medications.

What if I told you that I’m going to be interviewing at a big pharma company where my comp is going to be absolutely outrageous? I have no morals when it comes to money — within reason.

I would love to work for Shield AI or Anduril.

And the response--lacking answers to any of my questions--proves my point, which is that he just wanted an excuse to dispage "liberals" to make himself feel better but didn't have a valid one, so he misrepresented reasoned discussion as "defending" in much the same way people attack those who criticise the Netanyahu government by saying they are supporting/defending Hamas hoping it will cause them to be diverted into showing how they are not defending instead of discussing the validity of the criticsm.

That he resorts to such a disingenuous tactic out of the blue exposes his ill intent is based only on personal greivance, not genuine disgreement. I knew what he was up to the instant I read the post and that he would claim I was one of these defenders to whom he referred. Here's to hoping it's edifying for others in future. Forewarned is forearmed.

God bless. I don't have a problem with capitalism, it's part of what makes anyone that puts the effort in able to reach their dreams in our country, my only problem is with those don't put any limits on what they'd do or how much they need to earn.

There are guys like Bill Gates that was the richest man in the world but also a philanthropist giving away much of his wealth. Then there are people like Musk that wants to be a trillionaire and use it for political clout and for his own benefit.

Every effort I take is to make enough money to remove myself and my family from the struggle. I’m working to be financially free by 45

I don't think he's such a bad guy but he can be a bit arrogant at times. Maybe with reason, although when you're on the internet you can't really tell fact from fiction, but he's obviously an intelligent person.
