Social War Room Lounge Thread #325: PotWR Edition

To go with it we had this incredible yet bland-sounding soup the missus makes from napa cabbage and shiitake mushroom, and the least boring (however boring sounding) fried rice you can imagine.
Still better than most things we make in the states LOL. You definitely live like a king

I agree I am very fortunate. But a lot of the greatest things she cooks are really simple and which anyone could make. One dish that is to frikken die for is composed of napa cabbage, shiitake, pork belly, ginger, and some water with an ounce or so of sake, all thrown in to a clay pot to boil. And that's it. Then you put some ponzu in a bowl and dip it in the bowl. At the end, split all the juice left in the pot by pouring it into the bowls (perhaps adding a bit more ponzu), and drink it up. It's an incredibly amazing palate cleanser.

Of course there is a non-zero number of criminals among any sufficiently large human population but immigrants, even illegals, commit less crime than native born Americans. I also think the argument that their net contribution to the economy is positive to be quite robust.

In general far too much is conceded to the immigrant haters, their position is largely an emotional one disconnected from reality. You shouldn't play this liberal game of conceding to their base prejudices just to appear fair, it's that kind of coddling that has brought us to where we are today.
It's my honest opinion based on my own experience. We can't have a completely open system of immigration for anyone that wants to enter. I think it's important we allow people from all places but everyone needs to be vetted. The bipartisan agreement for more judges seems like a vital need if we're going to follow the law instead of doing it illegally the way Trump has been. I think a lot of people forget we're a nation of immigrants and basically every ethnicity has been discriminated against when they began to arrive in numbers.

You had me at pork belly....

One thing I messed up there. I don't think she adds water--only some sake. All the rest of the liquid comes out of the cabbage, plus the juices of the pork belly

And yeah, she could make an entire cookbook just for dishes containing pork belly.

Add in ginger, napa cabbage, shiitake, and sake, and you get a glorious number of combinations as bases for dishes of all sorts.

Tell the truth Japanese dishes are the things that I crave the most. There's not much they make that is not incredible. Cheers man

It's not near the border. They like anyone gravitate to the larger cities to find work. I live in Houston which is about three and a half hours from the border. But this city has the highest rate of sex trafficking mostly from the border. They will always gravitate to the cities of course

Ah, thank you...

💯

It's funny when she asks my opinion of what to have for supper because my answer is always the same--up to you, it's all good.

Another fave is okonomyaki, which she translated for me as "everything you like, fried."

Can't remember if I've brought it up before but it's a large savoury pancake topped with (the way she makes it--there are numerous styles) pork belly, shrimp, scallops, shredded cabbage, seaweed flakes, Kewpie Mayo (the best kind of mayo), and Bulldog Sauce. I could be leaving stuff out here.

And then there's nabe (pronounced nah bay)--google this fucker; it's simple yet amazing. It's the Japanese equivalent of what we'd call boiled dinner around here.

I've had Korean pancakes which have a lot of that stuff. You told me about nabe in one of these War Room threads and it looks amazing. I've looked for it around Houston

You can make it yourself if you can find good ingredients. We have a purpose built nabe pot but an electric frying pan will work nearly as well--just don't put the cover on it.

The best thing about nabe* is no matter how many or how few people you have for dinner you can just keep adding stuff to the pot as you go along and as it gets depleted until everyone has had enough.

It's great for family or friends get-togethers.

*edit: well not the best thing, because it's fookin delicious and that's the best thing, but the most convenient thing...

Meanwhile, back at the outhouse, shit was piling up.

A lounge implies it's a place to relax and shoot the shit. This is getting tiresome. Your president is officially asking y'all to take this immigrant discussion to its own thread.
The courts have thrown out your case.

If my case is, c'mon guys, don't be shitty, and it got thrown out, it says more about y'all than about me, don'tcha think?
Yes. This is more like a safe space where we can come together versus split up over politics

<LikeReally5>

Asking us heathens not to be shitty was your first mistake bud.
Aaaand we've come full circle to:

Meanwhile, back at the outhouse, shit was piling up.

Why do people want to turn the lounge into an outhouse?
