Social War Room Lounge Thread #325: PotWR Edition

So my son whose 17 won a scholarship/prize from the Beaverbrook foundation which culminates in a trip to Belgium and France to commemorate those who served ( Lord Beaverbrook was a British Canadian entrepreneur and politician, he was largely responsible for recording WW1 in pictures , moving and still, fascinating guy) George was one of 12 Canadian teenagers selected, there was an application which required a reference from a former teacher ( I can't imagine a more glowing letter ) he also needed to write two essays and had an interview before he was selected .

He's incredibly knowledgeable about the great wars , so this was right in his wheelhouse,it doesn't hurt that my wife teaches history and global politics, it's been a hobby of his for a many years.

It's an educational trip, they are touring war Memorials and interacting with local teens in Belgium and France , they also each selected a Canadian who died during WW1 or WW2 to honor

Today was the first day , this is his message

[03/08, 1:26 pm] George: sorry i didn't text today, we left the hotel in a hurry and by the time i realized we wouldn't have wifi i was already gone

[03/08, 1:26 pm] George: today was really really really great, i can't emphasize how cool today was. it was super fun and i think i was laughing for the entire day, like really just wow

[03/08, 1:26 pm] George: today we went to sites around falaise and caen which were amazing, all the people are really great so even the bus rides and quite times are a blast
[03/08, 1:26 pm] George: tomorrow we are doing the d-day beaches including juno beach center, mulbury harbors, free time on the beach and lots more!! i am so excited!!

He usually pretty reserved (after about age 4 he rarely rated anything higher than 8/10 because and I quote " I'm going to live a long time so I have to leave room for something better") so it's great to see him so jazzed up

I'd post pics but I can't figure out how to do it on this phone since the last update

No real point to this just happy for and proud of my boy , I can't imagine a more deserving kid .
*Who's

@Andy Capp you're slipping son... <{hughesimpress}>

Drag. I still get the splash screen nagging me to become a member quite often and have to click "continue to site". It's a pain in the arse.

Are you using a VPN by any chance? I have found I get the "prove you're human" thing on some sites when I use my old desktop 'puter.

half the times it asks me i aint even connected to a vpn

I’ve taken breaks from here before. The only reason I’m not on a break right now is I know the minute I leave, Jack will return and welch on his bet.
Wasn't the bet only for a few months?

So, Captain Pedantic takes a day off and he gets "disappointed Hughes" faced?

Harsh as homegrown, sherbro.

<Wink2>

Speaking of which, I saw it but I didn't want to harsh his buzz.
Just busting your chops bro... 😁

Yeah, thats a totally normal response and not unhinged at all.

What were the stakes of the new bet?
I think this one was just another 6 month sig. the previous was 2 months out of the WR and 6 month sig. this one I think was just another sig bet. He never came back so the sig was never seen by anyone.

What were the stakes of the new bet?
I believe it was a sig bet for six months.

I doubt he comes back, though. Dude's ego can't handle it. He leaned on that undefeated bet record in arguments, and always pointed to it as some litmus test for one's passion and/or intelligence. Now it's all gone. It must've really hurt his soul that the bets were about the stock market, too.

I think some of his last words were "and you're really proud of getting rid of one of the best posters on the site?", LOL.
