Social War Room Lounge Thread #325: PotWR Edition

That is what I'm advocating for and not I'm not even as radical as most so called YIMBYs.

If we're going to add density to suburbs I think it's better to start with allowing 2-4 units per lot, reducing minimum lot sizes, and focusing on 1-2 story multiplexes and prefab ADUs over apartment buildings with more than two stories and more than 4 units.

I thought that was a reasonable compromise position but NIMBYs know no compromise on this issue it seems.
There needs to be affordable housing. I am all for it. The best laid plans...

@Cajun 's place got sectioned 8'd. Besides him getting some wonderful jungle poon, the place has gone to shit.

Austin did it therefore it will catch on everywhere, brilliant argument there bud.
Both Florida and California among other states passed laws to upzone their states which is to say there's b8partisan appeal to these reforms beyond Austin.

I just got my monthly newsletter from a big web-shop.
They have a lot of US customers..
Now the US customer has to add a 15% charge on their orders.

Who did not see that coming.

Austin passed the laws and has been in legal delays since doing so. He keeps saying that it’s lowered prices but the fact of the matter is that ADUs in Austin are either 300-400k luxury units that millionaires are popping on to their second homes, 300-400 sqft tiny homes that are being rented or RVs parked in backyards.

This is his utopia.

It’s been a mess to the point they haven’t even released their yearly report.

I’m all for building new homes with reduced lots and relaxed zoning. What Austin is doing is benefiting the haves with supplemental income and allowing people who want to live in under 1000 sqft rentals more expensive options than apartments.

Furthermore, the new duplexes, row homes and the like are all new construction in new areas. It’s not popping up in neighborhoods like he wants

Yeah I have no problems with new townhouses and stuff like that. Rich people can afford to build nice add-ons but I'm not sure they're going to be eager to rent them out to just anybody. Shitty add-ons like a trailers in someone's backyard are going to piss everyone off.
