I took some of my japanese friends to my parents house for a weekend to ride horses, shoot guns and fish. I remember Kioko, my buddy Nao's wife making the pickled plum kind at our house. They were great. She would give them to her kids for breakfast or snack.
Can I be your friend? :)

Sounds like a great weekend. What species were you fishing?

That sounds good. Way to go. Onigiri is terrifically handy ;)

She usually uses either pickled plum or smoked salmon. I adore both.
Interesting. It would not have crossed my mind to go with plum. Then again, I'm a beginner.

They opened a T&T in a nearby town last summer. It's an Asian specialty supermarket and it's absolutely incredible. I was cooking a lot of Indian dishes before, but it made me switch to Japanese and Chinese food.

Just to be clear, it's pickled plum, not the raw fruit. In Japanese plums are called ume, by the way, and umeshu (I guess you'd call it plum wine) is also really fucking delicious. I'm not sure where she buys it around here but any store carrying Japanese food products ought to have it.

We had 2 ponds. A catfish and a bass/sacalait pond. We fried up the catfish we caught for lunch and released back the few bass. They had never done any of these things so I got a kick out of seeing their first experience. New friends always welcome brotha :)

I got a kick out of seeing their first experience: Oh, yes. It's such a good feeling to do that.

sacalait: First time I hear this. I go on Google and see it's a crappie. It comes from the Choctaw who called them sakli, which means trout. The Cajuns then twisted the name.

Sacalait = sac-à-lait = milk bag

catfish: I finally ate some last week. I loved it and so did my wife. I have to learn how to clean them.

Is it pronounced crap-pie? :P

Haha. Yeah, I've heard you guys called it crappie. A great eating fish. And remember... they call us coonasses for good reason. We twist everything. Yankees seem to either love or hate catfish. I grew up with the flavor but they have a great flavor. Along with salmon or tuna they just have so much more flavor than most white fish. If you get a chance cook your own catfish. Restaurants seem to put too much batter and not enough seasoning. But glad you enjoyed it.

Cleaning catfish is a task only for the skin. There is a plier tool that you get. You have to cut grab and pull. There are no scales so at least there's that. Then they clean like any other fish. Cheers brotha.

Also do you guys eat fish on the bone? I dont really much right now because of my young boys but to me there is no better way to eat any fish with the size enough for a dinner plate.

Tell him to stop ducking me and log back on. He's a good poster even though he's always wrong. 😁
I'm sure he will turn up sooner or later like the other fair weather fans on this board. Starting to see a few that had laid low since they were on the stop the steal wagon. Now Trump is on a rampage they are starting to pop back up.

Chritsia Freeland is on Bill Mahar, and he's calling her the next Prime Minister of Canada, like it's already decided. LOL.

Jesus Christ, Bill, do your research. Mark Carney is trouncing this useless clownette.

I can't take Maher seriously ever since Burr went on his show.
