There have been anonymous officials who stated that the target was someone else, an AQ operative, and that Abdulrahman(Anwar's teenage son) happened to be in the area. In a way it makes sense, if you're a teenager looking for your dad who defected to AQ its not out of the realm of possibility that your search is going to put you in contact with an AQ operative. But killing an American citizens who even the security services admit was not a terror threat should warrant more scrutiny that it received at the time. That makes a big difference @My Spot if he was collateral damage. Fishy, like suspicious, isn't a crime so if he was with ISIS members a drone strike is a risk anyone would take.
Of course none of this is to say that I'm cosigning My Spot's deflection and equivocation. The big difference between the likes of Obama and even other Republican presidents such as Bush with the likes of Trump is that its patently clear that Trump operates in bad faith as a rule and with marked disdain for preexisting norms and institutions. For example Obama and Bush both extensively consulted the Office of Legal Counsel in regards to the legality of some of their more questionable actions. That's not to say that they never tried to push the envelope but they were aware of the need to respect certain limits. Someone like Trump will hire a private team of lawyers to try to overturn the election when White House lawyers push back against his cockamamie schemes. And in this 2nd term he's running right into a constitutional crisis because he knows that if he wins he'll have more power.
