I've seen many onigiri recipes using mayo. I use kewpie and it makes a huge difference. You don't need much (I'd say half the recommended mayo). It makes the texture better and it's tastier.

I'm making my wife lobster onigiri and salmon onigiri Sunday. It's her birthday month so I do more than usual.
Happy wife happy life...

Yeah looked good. I want him to do even better than he did at the mass after what they did
People expect 60, but he'll settle with 30.

The fat piece of shit.

Gene Hackman and Wife test negative for carbon monoxide. Strange stuff.
Have you heard the latest update?

Police are saying the wife picked up a virus carried by rodents that mimics cold symptoms so she may have never known how sick she was. She was Hackman's primary caregiver and died a week before him. He had such severe Alzheimer's that they doubt he was even capable of making a phone call and he died a week later, likely due to not being able to take care of himself.

It really bummed the missus and me right out. This story came on the radio just a little after she and I had been joking about how she better not go before me because then I'd be nearly useless... too funny for this subject matter but a fact's a fact.

Haven't looked at the latest news. Won't until I finish this post.

So damn. She died a week before, and 95yr Lex Luthor didn't know wtf to do, so just fell over.

The rodent sickness is the weirdest part about all of this.

I don't find it weird so much as a sad unlucky moment of carelessness. There are all sorts of scenarios where she might have just acted without thinking and by chance picked up the virus. Maybe she handled a dead racoon with her bare hands or who knows what the fuck. It only takes one moment of thoughtlessness caused by too much other stuff going on at the time.

The missus tells me she only uses about 1/4 of a plum in onigiri. That is the likely difference and why you found it too salty. From the ones you've described making it sounds like you're making quite large ones or ones that have a lot of filling compared to rice. Do as you like, of course, but we usually have them with other things rather than say, a full meal on its own. It's also somewhat likely your appetites are bigger than ours so this is just FWIW.
I didn't use even a fourth. I think the plums I bought were not the right fit.

Indeed.

RIP Lex Luthor.

His last movie, Mooseport with Ray Ramano, is pretty good.

Sad ending but better if he didn't know I guess.

@koquerelle here's one for ya; did I ever tell you guys about oyakodon? 親子丼 translates to parent and child (on rice), because it's mainly just egg and chicken. It cracks me up, as it were.

That's my work lunch today. It's really good, even reheated, so it makes it great to bring from home. My wife's is perhaps less elaborate when it comes to toppings as in the link below, but it's still to die for to me.

I think the dashi, soy sauce, mirin, and sugar for seasoning are the key bits that trasform plain ol' egg, chicken, and onion, into something amazingly flavourful. You might need some good technique for it to be really successful, but it strikes me as something I could cook myself with a bit of practice and the proper ingredients.

Awesome! I added the recipe to my Paprika app.

I never made real dashi. Turns out I have 2 recipes in my Kenji Lopez book.

Excellent.

Kenji Lopez sounds like he has a pretty cool combo of ancestral backgrounds that would be very useful to a trained chef.

My big sister bought me his book The Wok and it's amazing. The man is a maniac. You should see the things he did for America's Test Kitchen. He's my 2nd favourite chef after Manali Singh.

I might try this myself. Looks amazing. Also love the site you posted with Japanese recipes. Never seen that

That's horrible

I always think of him in Unforgiven and The Quick and the Dead. Some great acting between him and Leo. Also the classic line... "Deserve's got nothing to do with it.. -BLAM-"

Is he dead?
No. He has insurance and it's covering it. I was with him when he called it in. He was severely remorseful. It was actually his girl who backed into it, but it was his car. He told me the worst part was getting out and seeing that it was a pristine sports car and not like an '01 Nissan.

I have to say I'm impressed with zoomers. I feel most people would have just left. He asked around and found my apartment and knocked on the door.

I take it to the body shop on Monday. They'll fix it up and I'll have a rental in the meantime. I don't know how long it will take but the damage was limited to the grill. Teeth kicked in. I don't think there's any radiator damage and when I turned it on the car didn't detect anything so hopefully his rates won't go up.
