yea, that's simple.

some infractions are way more egregious than others.

Physically assaulting someone is categorically wrong and wrong doers should be punished accordingly.

calling someone a **** or in the case of Rick, implying that police would/should exact vengeance for killing one of their own and being reported on that are different, no?

I'm not reporting him, but look at this:

You're out of touch and stupid and now you're mad because I pointed out how stupid your argument was. Go fuck yourself, you dumb cunt.

her der, poor people take the bus! What a fucking goofball argument. Holy shit.

Does this kind of thing do anything positive for the group? Doesn't it just make this place less pleasant and informative and maybe scare off normal people who would like to participate? The mods don't seem to have the capacity or interest to proactively handle stuff like that. So what's wrong with someone being a Good Samaritan and fixing it. Likewise for the hundreds of stupid "LOL" responses that drag down real discussions.

I don't even know who he's responding to (in one of those at least, he either didn't quote anyone or quoted someone I ignore), and maybe it's two-way. But then fix them both. It's fine to say it's not important, but reporting (if handled well by mods--which I don't know if it usually is) makes the place a little bit better for people. It's the exact same thing in the real world. Cops can't be everywhere, and we know that citizens taking the law into their own hands just makes things worse.

I'm seriously trying to get to the principle. I think message-board omerta is actually even stupider than real-world omerta, though less harmful.

To me, I get people reporting porn. I wouldn't want that popping up on my work computer or my wife or kids seeing it. Other than that, they're just words on a message board. I know that you don't but the majority of people talk trash in some form or fashion. It's just how this place operates.

The shit I say here some might think is heinous but is pale in comparison to the worst of me when I'm playing video game or when I was a bouncer.

its sad... i might mess with the trumpers for fun but this is completely different .... there is no "awww poor murderer needs a fair trial"
F that noise
Not the same as police work but we had a guy glass a bouncer once....

We called the cops saying we found someone that had been beaten up in the alley after we dragged him outside.

i basically asked how he murdered a cop and was taken alive and (paraphrasing) said something to the effect that if that happened in nypd the cops wouldnt have taken him alive... then spacegnome went on a crusade to get me carded calling me a maniac cop and everything wrong with the system etc and that the mass murderer deserved justice and a fair trial etc etc... the cop who was murdered has 7 children and he was sticking up for a radicalized muslim murderer ... but I am the bad guy lol

Brah, you advocated extrajudicial justice, in the form of murder.

Perfect example. Agree. I've said much worse on a basketball court and in a boxing ring
I can get reporting some things but when I get in a flaming war here... yeah, I don't report other people cause they toed a line cause I likely toed the same fucking line in the course of everything.

like @LazaRRus I get reporting pron, and imo, obvious, dishonest trolls like Ridenwithbiden and @tangata motu'a should be shit canned immediately.

politics can be a volatile subject and heated words will be exchanged undoubtedly, especially if one party is dedicated to dishonesty, and has no intent of engaging in honest/civil discourse.

I do agree with you that this place can be better, and more civil behavior should be lauded.

I got dubs for calling someone a cunt, then again I’m not a right winger.

But in Ryan's case, you're pretty much laying out the case that his play was largely responsible, being that strike outs are a large part of the odds in how often you may find yourself throwing a no-hitter.

Yeah. So? It doesn't define the job. It's a cool thing that happens as a result of him being an unusual player. I'm not denying that he was fun to watch. But a great pitcher is one who is great at keeping runs off the board. Ryan was maybe the best ever at preventing hits and one of the worst at preventing walks. On balance, he was a pretty good pitcher.

The principle is suck it up Nancy, instead of running to mods to protect your little feelers. In basketball parlance it'd be no blood no foul. Since you're big on the ol' ignore function, that should mean you're not quick on the report trigger.

I'm not quick on the report trigger exactly because I do use the ignore feature. But I also don't criticize people who are. Ideally, it's something that makes the forum better by improving the quality of moderation. And the principle applies equally to the real world. So you had your car stolen. Suck it up, Nancy, or try to murder the person who did it. That will surely make the world better, right?

Just wait until it’s a black victim of police brutality, you can go all out there.

like i said earlier... rules are rules etc.. im fine being carded... if it exposes people for supporting a murderer than the police...

It didn't expose shit other than your contempt for the criminal. Which I don't I begrudge you on. However we do have this thing called the criminal justice apparatus, or whatever. We kinda need those hired to enforce it to abide by it.

I don't oppose trash talk or harsh language or anything, but when that's the only thing in the post (like, it's not "f you, mofo, you're wrong because XYZ"), it detracts from the quality of the place. I think if people reported it more, the group would be better. I also recommend ignoring more as a way to prevent degeneration.

Yeah, though false accusations of dishonesty are another huge drag (you accused me once just because I posted stats that contradicted your preferred narrative) because it leads to more personal bullshit that is unrelated to the substance of discussions.
