These are always my favorite threads because it's always nice to see the more composed of us finally slapping the shit out of each other for once.

I'm glad to tell you to fuck off and drink bleach year round, it's expected from me now. But in this thread, I can sit back and watch the fireworks.

I actually like you and although I think jack is a downright asshole to some people, you included, he is IMO, one of the best posters on this site. So with that disclosure I have to say this post is totally over the top and more than a bit bizarre.

That hurts, man. I don't try to be an asshole to anyone. I don't respect DS as a thinker or a man, but I don't try to rub that in his nose or anything. It is what it is. I recognize that there are people--him among them--who aren't ever going to have anything nice to say about people who don't agree with them politically, and I'm cool with it. I don't get why they whine about me not answering their nuttiness with more kindness.

Dude don't take it wrong, you know I laughed when they said you were "the nicest guy on Sherdog". You are certainly not even close to the meanest, and are always civil.

But you do rustle lots of jimmies and it comes from you being super articulate combined with the tendency to talk about posters in the third person while dropping them into categories of dumb and dumber (bottom tier, not as bad as x, x, or x but not contributing anything really meaningful, etc.). [edit we all do that tbf, you seem to cast quite a wide net when u do it though]

Also I think you let things get sidetracked a little needlessly. Even in your last spate with dontshitch, you have a poster that thinks MO using the slave word in a whitehouse speech is divisive, does not have any good context, that I saw anyway, and so yes, the inference or the logical conclusion is that using the term im ANY way will be divisive. But it is still not what he said. It would be much more productive to have said that to DS, or put the onus on him to give a list of when it's ok to talk about slavery, etc. I have seen you go on for pages arguing with people over who said what, and frankly it's a waste of your brain power.

And to be fair, who really cares, people should not post on SD, if they can't handle being called stupid. But you definitely do that and bring it from one thread to another.

Again you are a top poster and probably one that I have gotten most out of in terms of learning, so I don't say any of this to bash you, or think I'm some great poster that needs to opine on everyone else's style. I just saw a pretty creepy rustled post from DS and wanted to point it out while still giving my attempt at a balanced take on it.

The problem is the kind of public/private nature of the discussions. I'll make a kind of general comment to the person I'm responding to and the group as a whole, but some people react super personally to being mentioned as an example (and DS reacts super personally to any criticism--he once flipped out over me saying that he was ignorant of some specific fact, which is literally the politest thing one can say in a disagreement).

Where we disagree here is that I think that you say what the logical implications of your comments are. His criticism seemed completely bananas, as Michelle's comment was the exact opposite of divisive--the point of the comment was to illustrate how far America had come in expanding freedom to everyone. I thought it was really touching, myself, and the smallness of people getting offended by it was disappointing.

Fair, and sure. Like I said, I don't try to rub it in anyone's face. I don't pay much attention to bottom-tier posters and I don't poke at them or respond to their pokes usually. That probably enrages them more, but whaddyagunnado?

Thanks, and I get it. Just saying I'm not *trying* to offend anyone or upset anyone. It's just a natural consequence of the way the group works. I wish DS all the best in his life and don't want to cause him any distress just because I don't think highly of his intellect or the way he conducts himself here.

I don't dislike him. I've never seen him post that I can recall.

Ed: Looked him up, and his second-to-most-recent post was this:

"they need a savage beating"

That's it. No punctuation or capitalization. That kind of tells me that the rest of his oeuvre is not worth reading, and that he's probably an awful human being (though I don't know who he's referring to).

What do you think makes him a good poster?
