So the outdoor gun range around here that some guys at work like, I looked into it, and joining it looks like joining a cult

You must be a member of the NRA to apply, no exceptions

Applications must be in by Dec 31st the year before you wish to join. New members are accepted in March. No other time.

During that January and February time, you must attend 7/8 weekly 2+ hour dinner meetings, and while there, have 2 people sponsor you joining to vouch for you during the March acceptance time.

I'm a member of a shooting club that required going to a single meeting where I had to get two sponsors to sign my application. Basically all they wanted was for applicants to be social for a bit so that the members could see if you were an asshole or something. I had both signatures within 10 minutes or so. They have monthly meetings from March-October where members can join. If I had to prove that I gave money to a corrupt organization and have dinner with a bunch of goofballs for two months I definitely wouldn't have bothered joining.

I do like that range near me where I can join for $250 a year or I can just pay them $30 a day to shoot at their public rifle range. The time their range only gets used hard is in September and October when guys are getting their hunting rifles dialed in. I went their last month for two hours and the only person there besides me was the RSO.

You in Eastern VA? cause that sounds like our local POS private gun range. Lafayette Gun Range is full of old as fuck Fudds who hate new people joining but complain about the lack of member dues to upkeep the property since the membership are all over 60 and dying off. the range wont even exist in 10 years is my estimate.

No, this is in southern Wisconsin. But that probably sounds like this place where they're keeping it an old boys club and then bitching that the younger generation isn't getting into shooting

Place I used to shoot in central Wisconsin was awesome. 40 bucks a year for 7, 15, 25, 50, 100, 200, 300 yard stalls with nice little shooting benches for 50 and up, along with some clay throwers and some archery targets on the west end. Was run real smoothly with the calls for sieze fires every so often to reset targets. I'm only realizing now that was the exception and not the norm to find around. I don't want to pay 25 an hour for an indoor range just to shoot my handgun but that seems to be all that's around here till I make a friend with someone with some land outside city limits.
 
Have any of you fellas had your hands on these newish Turkish pistols? Made by Canik or Sarsilmaz? I had a chance to play with the Canik TP9sf and the Sarsilmaz B6p and I must say I was impressed. Not just for the price point, but in general.
 
I really wish places would get the CZ TSO back in stock st the regular street price. There is a place here asking like $400 over msrp

Agreed. I've got a Canik and it's a good gun. Factor in the price and it's a great gun.

Was wondering myself about the Tisas Hi-Power clones.

The guy I was shooting with also had a CZ Shadow. Shooting them side by side, I honestly didn’t feel like the Turkish guns were outclassed. The B6P was turning out the best groups. I was impressed. I believe I’m going to grab one while they are sub $300. Magazine price and availability is not a strong point, but it seems like the Mec-Gar CZ 75B mags will work with these.

I have no experience with TISAS, but they certainly look nice. Not a bad price on them either.
 
Neighbor who lives above me (retired police captain and Vietnam vet) just bought an AR pistol with the arm brace. The atf legal short barrelled rifle setup. Real fun feeling gun to shoulder and dry fire in his garage when I went over.

Apparently a 30 caliber round on a 223 sized cartridge. Never heard of that ammo before. A necked up round like that sounds like a higher performing carbine type end result?

.300 blackout? I've no experience, but from what I hear it plays well with short barrels and suppressors.

Yeah. I didn't know the right terms to search, but searched 300 blackout and that sounds like exactly it. I can definitely see how when you don't have the full velocity from a full length barrel, having the extra bullet size becomes appealing. Logically sound for a sbr. Just make sure you don't load one into your normal ar 15.

Hopefully will get out shooting with him in the next few weeks. He has quite the arsenal it sounds like, and I just helped him do some rewiring on his fishing boat :)
