I think a lot of people are traumatized after riding Oliveira's cock for months and fantasizing that he will be the LW GOAT and demolish Khabib and Islam's legacy, he was the great Christian hope.

But Islam easily dismantled him at his own game, so all the "Charles is GOAT" talk backfired splendidly and enhanced Islam, and by extension, Khabib's legacy in return.

So all the usual suspects are taking a different approach, downplay Volkanovski, so when he loses it's "Meh, he beat a midget"... They don't want a repeat of the Oliveira trauma.

Most had Islam the favorite over Olivera due to Olivera's weaker grappling submission defense. He's great offensively but weak defensively and he is easily controlled when he is on his back and ground and pound neutralizes his BJJ off his back. The risk was always there that he may be able to snatch something up during a scramble/transition, but the longer the fight went and if they actually engaged in actual grappling exchanges, Islam was the clear favorite in that type of fight.

I agree skill and experience wise he should be the favourite.

I'm a bit less confident in that though after seeing the first episode of Embedded where Volk has a visible muffin top while training. Unlike most I thought he'd do fine moving up as he's actually already like 10-1 at LW and WW (and the loss is at WW) so this isn't something new to his career-wise, but looks like he has indeed shrunk down the more he's fought at FW and hasn't quite been able to go up with LW properly without added fat and water weight.

Obviously we're still a few days out and who knows when that was filmed, but I'm wondering if come weigh in day he's going to look flat instead of filled out and simply not drained like most were expecting from just not needing to cut as much.

Muffin top? lots of Embedded clips are from a while ago, probably when he was in the middle of his bulk and near 180lbs. the last month of his camp he trimmed down to a lean 170lbs, which is the weight he wants to fight at, and he looks like this at 170lbs
