-1000 for Islam is what it should be, I give Volk little to no Chance. He needs power to have a chance at a lucky ko, but he doesn't even have that.
Josh Emmett only had a 4 fight win streak with his last win over Dan Ige. He should have been more like Korean Zombie who had a 1 fight win streak over Dan IgeNot his fault yair keeps losing, Emmet hadn't beaten anyone and Allen was always injured
Not to mention literally everyone kept riding Max's nuts and lobbying for him to get rematches, the second which he rightfully earned
- undefeated
- actually has title defenses
- wiped out his division
- a former 300 pound rugby monster with thick solid and tight core
- islam beat a bunch of average blokes on route to undeserved title shot off of Khabib's life work
- defeated Charles, a guy dropped in his last 4 fights, the other guys were just afraid to jump in his guard and put him away unlike islam. also Charles is known to quit, has several times
The classic beat 10 bums and then one elite fighter, all of a sudden you're legitimized and P4P #1, very fickle sport
Tl;dr expect another Volkanovski 5 round clinic, followed by Islam was never that good narrative
what was there rankings when he defeated Max in the 3rd fight? cause he was promised a LW title shot right after that fight. Here we go again. Alex has not fought Yair (2), Allen (4), or Emmett (5). As well as any 7-10 ranked FW.
But he’s “wiped out his division”.

Most had Islam the favorite over Olivera due to Olivera's weaker grappling submission defense. He's great offensively but weak defensively and he is easily controlled when he is on his back and ground and pound neutralizes his BJJ off his back. The risk was always there that he may be able to snatch something up during a scramble/transition, but the longer the fight went and if they actually engaged in actual grappling exchanges, Islam was the clear favorite in that type of fight.I think a lot of people are traumatized after riding Oliveira's cock for months and fantasizing that he will be the LW GOAT and demolish Khabib and Islam's legacy, he was the great Christian hope.
But Islam easily dismantled him at his own game, so all the "Charles is GOAT" talk backfired splendidly and enhanced Islam, and by extension, Khabib's legacy in return.
So all the usual suspects are taking a different approach, downplay Volkanovski, so when he loses it's "Meh, he beat a midget"... They don't want a repeat of the Oliveira trauma.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
Yeah the zombie title shot was bs but he was a late notice for max yeah?Josh Emmett only had a 4 fight win streak with his last win over Dan Ige. He should have been more like Korean Zombie who had a 1 fight win streak over Dan Ige
True but it was something like March cancelation and moved to April 9th, and Emmett-Kattar was announced later in April, so it's not like Josh was busyYeah the zombie title shot was bs but he was a late notice for max yeah?
Fuckin Lidl has been killing me with that latelyI ate moldy bread again, isn't that the worst?
You expect the perfect sandwich and it all turns to shit with one bite. Yeah and also troll thread.
You must've been absent from Sherdog around that time. Oliveira was the favorite to win in all the polls here (something like 60-40 for Olives)Most had Islam the favorite over Olivera
Disagree. Bad troll job. No one is seriously taking this baitGreat Troll job. I already got the popcorn out!
I agree skill and experience wise he should be the favourite.
I'm a bit less confident in that though after seeing the first episode of Embedded where Volk has a visible muffin top while training. Unlike most I thought he'd do fine moving up as he's actually already like 10-1 at LW and WW (and the loss is at WW) so this isn't something new to his career-wise, but looks like he has indeed shrunk down the more he's fought at FW and hasn't quite been able to go up with LW properly without added fat and water weight.
Obviously we're still a few days out and who knows when that was filmed, but I'm wondering if come weigh in day he's going to look flat instead of filled out and simply not drained like most were expecting from just not needing to cut as much.
