He was the first ever russian in the UFC, and also the greatest gatekeeper of all time. He tested guys like Alexander Gustaffson, Tito Ortiz, Andrei Arlovski, Ryan Bader and Jon Jones, in their path to glory. Before all the stars UFC have now, there was that guy Vladimir "The Janitor" Matyuchenko. If you know better gatekeeper, tell me who is that person.

Its funny how we all have different definitions of gatekeepers. I say a gatekeeper is a fighter who represents the line between the elite and everyone else. If you beat this guy then you are eligible to compete with the best. So I disagree with Vladdy as a gatekeeper just because he fought and lost to all those guys but its not terribly important, I like the idea for the thread. FYI Vladdy is from Belarus, not Russia. Belarus was however a part of the USSR so I can understand the confusion. And also, I think Amar Sulouev and Andrei Semenov fought in the UFC before Vladdy but Im not sure. Oleg defrinitely did. Love the Janitor though, big big fan.

He will fight for the title soon, he can't be considered as a gatekeeper anymore. The Janitor was less known and his list of big names is more impressive. Matyschenko look like some random old guy from the street, that's why he is the greatest
