I am attempting to transfer my membership at Vitor Shaolin's BJJ Academy on 47th St @ 8th Ave in NYC to somebody. The membership is discounted, began December 3, 2012 and is valid until December 3 of this year. The school is open 7 days a week; around noon weekends, and morning, noon and evening during the week. Classes are unlimited. Most classes are taught by either Shaolin himself, or Marcos ''Loro'' Galvao. It's a great school, I just am unable to attend now. Email me with any questions at [email protected]. Thank you.

Memberships are that expensive in new york?

Good luck getting someone to step in

I got in a pickle moving with that school after having a great time there and had to eat hundreds of dollars but 1700 is a lot to eat

I miss training with Loro and a few of the students there and it is definitely a quality school

I'm not interested but is it transferable? I would check with them and the fine print.

This type of post makes me really grateful my school doesn't do year long contracts. Good luck to you.

Are they really willing to let you transfer it? You're probably just going to have to eat it.

Why can't they just give you your money back? BJJ places are still so illegitimate.

I visited that academy and it is awesome, just in case anyone is on the fence.

I'm not sure, but they probably have a monthly rate...with a more discounted yearly rate. Obviously with the money coming up front, you don't just let people out and give them their unused portion.

I'm betting they are cool with the transfer.

id probably put some mats in my apt and train ufc with gracie u b4 paying $1700 for a year of training.

Where are you from? I'm just outside of DC and this seems like it'd be on the cheaper side. Now you're talking about unlimited classes, morning, noon and night. A lot of which are taught by Shaolin. And its located in NYC. You do realize that things are a bit more expensive there, right?

Seriously... a good BJJ gym is more than 120 a month... 120x12= 1440. 1700 is what... 145 a month? That's not terrible at all for unlimited classes with a world renown teacher.

Especially being in NYC.

They actually don't have a monthly rate. They have class packages of like 10 classes for $400 or year long contracts.

Being stuck in a contract sucks but most schools offer month to month pricing for a little bit more per month for those who can't or don't want to commit.

We have people at our school who always want the 12 month contract price and complain when they need to quit after 6 months. We tell them fine, we'll retroactively apply the month to month rate for the 6 months you were here and you can cancel. People still complain.

BTW, sorry to go off topic TS but I figure every post is a bump for you anyways.

It is an awesome school...

Unless you get a great promo, all the serious BJJ schools in NYC are between 185 and $240 a month for unlimited training. Even the good but slightly lower lineaged schools in the NY metro area are that costly. At least you can ride the subway to train.
