Why exactly? If you truly want to honor someone, why not do it when they're alive and able to actually appreciate it? The whole idea of waiting to honor someone after they're dead seems completely backwards to me.

I think it's weird to make a statue of a person while they're still alive.

Depends on if the person deserves it, in this case I think GSP does, this is actually nice for MMA as a sport for a country to honor a sports hero like this.
