Vince McMahon is looking to sell WWE

LOL people using Nielsens in 2021....ffs, the shows are always in the top 5 weekly cable shows.

It's almost like the "ratings" are down the shitter all over the place.

Enough "this many people used to watch this along time ago".....you sound retarded.

Should we compare Saturday Night's Main Event ratings to Attitude Era Raws? Think if idiots did that, they'd be screaming "the business is dead" back then too. {<jordan}

He's the reason wwe doesn't listen to their fans. Their profits and revenues have literally gone up every year since at least 2004.
Don't need fans to like it when FOX, Peacock and the Saudis are giving you millions of dollars.

I worked for Neilsens from like 96-2000ish...it was ridiculous thinking back on which homes agreed to participate that their numbers meant anything.

Fair enough to criticize that system, but how come other shows have way better numbers than pro wrestling? How come those other homes who's existence Leslie ratings register are watching other stuff and not wrestling?

Again, I get that it's a flawed system, but to pretend like wrestling is popular is also insincere.
Imagine presenting a well thought out story line with a long term endgame only to have it crushed by Vince for some lame jokes that are 20 years old...
How do you know it's a well thought out storyline? Steph and Triple H are in charge of hiring those writers - neither of them both are creative, but they're running the show now with Vince bottle necking in sometimes (since he still owns it all, but is too old to work as much as before). So, for all you know, he constantly gets presented crap and tries to polish it up when, really, he should've never let those two dumb dumbs in charge of his company.

There's a direct line mirroring the increasing power those two hacks have kept gaining and the decreasing quality of the show.

Pro Wrestling isn't popular because it's something the pop culture of todays parents liked.

It's always been stupid and treated like a hillbilly past time, much like NASCAR which is also having a giant exodus in viewership.

You notice even the UFC are not getting the ratings of ten years ago?

You sound triggered. And ignorant.

It hasn't been a redneck-specific form of entertainment since, like, 1985. I mean, I'm a simple peasant from Eastern Europe, pro wrestling even had fans here.

And what are you comparing it to NASCAR and UFC for? You think a storytelling medium is comparable to real sports? Will you compare NHL to Game of Thrones next? It's thinking like this that's part of why pro wrestling's irrelevant these days.

P.S. Attitude Era > Game of Thrones

Don't got to be white and Murican to be a redneck.

Also, linking this to redneck sports to show a clear exodus in viewership for the target audience.

And I guess Steve Austin's heel turn was Khaleesi turning her dragon onto King's Landing.

Wrestling isnt popular today because of people like ricochet. just a gymnast. no ability to tell a story. not able to build up to something. no reason at all to care about him at all. When I was a kid watching people like Jake Roberts (before wwf), man it was suspenseful waiting to see if he got in a ddt. and he didnt always get it. now he would get 4 or 5 per match, making it completely unimportant. He certainly wouldnt be over either because he wouldn't be able to talk like he does.

not a single guy on the roster makes you care about them. it is just the same exact moveset and the same stupid descriptors. is roman reigns the head of the table? you dont say (50 times a night). Is randy orton the apex predator? I never would have known. can you tell me again. the entire thing is so choreographed and scripted that there is no doubt i will not be surprised by anything. so i just dont care. and if i do get surprised by something like a return, they will make me not care about that in 2 weeks either

WWF was great between 1985 - 1993 but after that its unwatchable, (there was a brief attitude era period that was interesting but that extreme behavior couldn't last long)

Yeah, we can agree on that one, unfortunately.

97>98>99 is peak wrestling for me. Stuff before begins to feel too outdated for comfort and has serious pacing issues (I also didn't like Vince's commentary voice when he took over, that inhaled shit), while stuff after became increasingly too slick and overproduced.

There's iconic moments, awesome characters and cool stories scattered everywhere, but that late 90s stretch was just escapism done right.
