Videos from Real Pro Wrestling

I think if a similar product was launched today with the same funding and participation it would be a success. The look of the RPW product was just a little too old school and American Gladiators-ish. I thought Ben Askren's Agon Wrestling had a good chance but he seemed to do that half heartedly.

I love these. I had a hat signed by joe Williams wore it to very tournament
Beast! Ive heard so many people say that Joe Williams was probably the best but most underachieving wrestler they can think of. That's an insane statement for a world medalist and 3x NCAA champ. Apparently he should've been one of the greats of USA Wrestling with a few gold medals. He wrestled too many close matches when it seemed he could easily destroy the other guy.

Yeah. Super awesome guy also. Met him at state tournament when I was in middle school.

Great stuff. Thanks for posting.

DC had a little more attitude back in the day huh? Not so avuncular in that match.

At the time DC was our #1 guy on the world stage at 211lbs.

Tommy Rowalnds was among the top 4 at HWT and at one point placed 5th in the World (not sure if it was before or after this).

Well Tommy was a small Heavy and decided to bump down to 211 and challenge DC for his spot. A lot of people thought the spot was Tommy's once he dropped but DC thought otherwise. Might explain the attitude lol.

DC also bumped up for a tournament and beat Mocco.

At that point in time 211lbs might have been the deepest weightclass in the World.

Ya know, I don't like it. Not only does a singlet look cool if your in good shape, but it gives you very little to grab on too.

some guys get mad when people diss the singlet but tbh i hate it. im glad they did that for hs. some kids in puberty are insecure self conscious about there body, and dont want there junk bulging out of a singlet with girls at there school watching them lol. plus we get to see some awesome wrestling shorts now being made and rashguards. i think they should go shirtless if they want. rashguards get a bit slippery i prefer no shirt and shorts tbh do you think they will ever let colleges do it too?

I think the production was fine.

I think the only reason it might succeed today compared ot back then is because their are more mediums to profit. There are so many more channels, streaming options for content. You got 1,000 TV channels looking for programing I could see a niche channel exclusively for what used to be non revenue sports.

And if not you can tyr and make the money througha service like Flo.

There was also a guy named Satiev competing on the World stage at the same time....

Who knows man, If you frequent Intermat.com TR Foley seems to be up on this sort of thing and I think he believes eventual the change will happen in NCAA.

I disagree on the production. I believe it was right on the line where the look and feel of TV products was really starting to change. This was more kinda American Gladiators/bland style (as I said), the game was about to change with things like HBO's 24/7, UFC countdown shows, etc. I think video production has changed sooooo much for the better in the last 10 years that this product would be much "cooler" now. Also now you have the advantage of the UFC and MMA has made combat sports that much more popular and it has trickled all the way down to TMAs.

<JagsKiddingMe>
Like that guy did anything

<OKC16>

Yeah Joe had the unfortunate task of competing at the same time as one of the true GOAT’s of Wrestling. Then Williams had that hiccup in 2000 that allowed Slay to swoop in and get the roided gold

Interesting, before seeing these videos, I had no idea that this was a league/stage for wrestling in the USA. Pretty funny commentary, too. Shame Cormier couldn't do that to Gatstalov ;)

Of course, I hear you, but how many silver medals does Joe have? Additionally, Joe made the world/Olympic team in the following years:
1999
2001
2003
2004
2005
2007
In 99 he lost to A Saitiev not B Saitiev
2001 he did face and lose to Bauvaisa
But in 2003, 04, 05, & 07 he did not face either Saitiev and still didn't make the finals. Now, Im a big fan of Joe, and it should be noted that he was truly great, my point is just that he could have been greater and that the Saitiev bros had little to do with it.

Here's a fun fact, Tommy Rowlands participated in the 2004 Pan Am Championships as a late replacement for DC. For some unknown reason, Yoel Romero decided to bump up to 96 for that same tournament and beat Rowlands. Its too bad though, we would've got to see (or look back on) DC vs yoel in wrestling match.

Thanks for sharing. Pritzlaf was a beast too. He still looks like he could compete right now if he wanted too. He paces around the mat at the RU meets with his hands folded behind his back just looking like he's about to get out there and scrap at any point. Hope he teaches Suriano that sick snatch single. Delvecchio hits it time to time.

Don Pritzlaff? When did he get to Rutgers? Is he head coach? I remember he was at Michigan and before that maybe Wisconsin. Great wrestler. I remember being impressed to learn that Koscheck actually has a win or 2 over him. Andy Hrovat too.

Assistant and he made the move a couple of years ago.

It was before Andre Howe's last year. Think that's one of the main reasons Howe went to Oklahoma his last year
