Video of UFC fighters discussing how hard sparring they do

AKA wouldn't be a "fine line" it would be "well over the line" but they seem to have improved a bit...

Nothing replaces sparring, you have to go pretty hard sometimes to make the spar sessions "feel" like a fight would when a bout is coming up. And the timing, reflexes, reading, distance judging, countering can degrade when you dont keep them sharp with spar sessions.

You definitely dont wanna go into a fight and encounter anything you havent felt in training, thats why a lot of dudes go hard, especially when a fights approaching. Huge difference in fatigue and ability to relax when sparring say, 50-60% and when you go near 100%. Also gives the coach a sense of how youre gonna react and what techniques you choose when things get tough in there.

Nice vid. Addresses the problem may guys have whether they are pros, amateurs, hobbyists. If they don't go hard, they don't think they are actually doing work. This often results in injuries. There is a time to go 80% - 90% but most of the time it is not the best choice.

Other sports have their risks too:

i support hard sparring when necessary. u spar hard at least once a camp if ur expecting to strike

Spot on. At my gym- the coach lets guys walk in off the street and immediately spar with us thatve been there a while. About half the time, these dummies have no idea what sparring is and think theyre involved in a title fight. Boils down to not understanding training.
