Would you think we'd see the same result if it was an MMA fight?

I think Jacaré would win the MMA fight, too much power and more dynamic striking!

Jacare by MMA imo. I'd love to see Maia go to 85 to do that match, just for fun (drools).

I think Maia uses his BJJ more effective in MMA, he really wants to get the fight to the ground where Jacare sometimes thinks his background is in kickboxing and doesn't use his full submission arsenal until he really wants to use it.

They've met up more than once. Jacare handles him pretty well in the finals of the 2005 ADCC. I think the consensus would be that, although Maia is phenomenal, Jacare did surpass him.
I've heard there might have been a third match, but I've only seen the two.

Depends who is better with No Gi. Maia has alot of really good no gi escapes , both guys are good but it depends who trained most time without Gi and who is the sharpest and most fit that when the new fight happens. i also believe Jacare is less intelligent and has more ego , he could have easily won the romero fight but he thought he was a kickboxer. ( in my opinion he is a grappler with decent striking )

Btw the Gi match is pretty boring to be honest , il rather watch metamoris.

It was the other way around, Jacare beat Maia, and then Maia beat Jacare in the rematch. Both in the same year (2005). They are 1-1.

Wrong section. Escort this hip touch out.

If it gets him retired, I'd like to see Maia go to 185 and lose this match to Jacare.

Maia is better, seeing as Jacare is way more athletic and stronger, and Maia can still beat him.

Both are on pretty much the highest level in BJJ but Jacaré is just physically a lot stronger. When technique is pretty much the same small differences in strength matter a lot.

Yea, there is a myth about a third match, but i have never been able to find anything about that.

I finally solved that one, last year: asked Eduardo Alonso, who was sitting next to Demian Maia while he was online at the time. He asked Maia directly on the spot. No 3rd match, it's a myth.

The interwebz is awesome sometimes.

Oh, so it's settled then. Cool man, thanks.

heres my take on watching them only in mma. Maia is much better at forcing his grappling but jacare is more opportunisitc and has way quicker tranistions. Maia can dictate his grappling whenever he wants it seems jacare has to find an opening. Maybe im off but thats what I take from watching them.
