Alright guys, dangerous question here. My new Venum Absolute gi just arrived today. Thing looks sweet and feels super heavy duty (Then again, I've been using a gameness air). Looked like venum was doing a sellout and I had to upgrade myself as I really wanted a blue one. Still got it for under 100 tho.

Anyway, it's size A2.5, which is listed on their site as 165-180 pounds and 5'8" to 6'. I'm 180 right now, should be 165 by Christmas time and a barrel chested 5'8 so I figured this was better than the A2 which I figured would be too small if it shrunk at all.

Right now, this says pre-shrunk on the tag, and is a touch too big. Danger area, I know. Last thing I want to do is actually shrink shrink it, but what are my options to maybe pull an inch and a half off the sleeves and pants, and 2 inches out of the circumference? Will putting it in the dryer until fully dry shrink it too much?

Also, I figure this is better quality than my old one, but that one just kept on shrinking long after the first couple washes. Anyone with a venum can tell me if any of that happens? I normally put it in the dryer just for 20 minutes so that it's still wet or heavy damp and air dry from there, just not soaking.

venum gis are overpriced shit. Send it back and get an Isami instead.

Nah he should get a Mizuno Yusho.

It's a judogi, but the only downside he'd have in BJJ is that he'll have to get used to hearing the constant lamentations of spider guard players.

Will they be allowed in tournaments? IBJJF gets their panties in a bunch for far less than wearing a *gasp* Judo Gi

I can't imagine that they'd take issue with anything other than the weave. It's a double weave. I don't train in BJJ anymore, so I haven't bothered keeping up with the IBJJF's rules. Since it's a judogi, there aren't any patches, and the cut and everything else should be legal, since they tend to be baggier and longer in the arms and legs.

Yes, but this was literally half priced and so not overpriced at all. $90 for what they originally had at 185. Would have gotten the one step down (competitor) but they were out of my size.

Can I get any recommendations on how to maybe wash a quarter size (or less) out of a Gi safely? Or does this brand do that already? My last gi, a gameness, said pre shrunk but went from far too big to perfect to a bit tight just with normal washing

I've never in my life heard of a sure fire method of shrinking clothing, and to put that into perspective, I'm pretty frugal and thrift shop, so i often buy bigger clothes just to shrink them and I'm "in" that community.

You need to be aware that the waist and length of the legs is going to shrink significantly this is the most unpredictable part really

is it made in brazil?

I don't own a venom gi but for all my other gis, I would wash and dry in dryer. I would take it out every 10 mins and try on until it is perfect fit. Then air dry after.

Funny thing about preshrunk...they seem to shrink the most...from my experience.

Just wash and dry it like a normal article of clothing.

That's what I do and I've never had any problems.

Air drying your gi makes it crispy and stiff.

Dont worry about whet other guys are saying about them. Venum gi
