I recently bought a new pair of Twins Special 12oz. gloves. I'd been told by some of the boxing trainers at the gym to smear the glove with vaseline every now and then to prevent the leather cracking (apparently not doing this caused my last pair to crack). Is this advisable? If so, do I wipe it off right away or leave it overnight?

No....Vaseline isn't what you want to use on your gloves.
It isn't good for the leather.

A little bit of leather conditioner if you are concerned about it but I usually don't bother.
Just use them.

Mink oil works pretty well used in moderation.

Use some URAD Leather Conditioner on them if you`re concerned about the leather cracking. If you`re in the USA, the product goes by `Leather Mate`.

Yeah I just use leather wipes for auto leather...seems nice and light, leaves the gloves conditioned but not oily.

Wouldn't worry about it, the foam should break down long before the leather cracks or rips.

And think about whatever you're putting on the gloves ending up in your sparring partners' eyes.

thanks for that guys, POINT312, we don't normally put vaseline on the gloves

we dont either but we do put it on our face and headgear and it gets on your gloves from there..................ive only seen old gloves crack as in ones that are 2+ years old

I throw some leather conditioner on my gloves every month or so. I dont know if it prolongs the life of the glove itself (the foam will undoubtedly die long before the leather), but its only a couple bucks, so I figure I might as well.

the thing is, unless your gloves are cracking in under 9months, you need to be replacing them when they wear our anyways. what im saying is, unless the leather is bad, they should wear out well enough before they crack. if you use them often enough, they'll die in under a year. think running shoes. my running shoes are 2 months old and i will have to replace them in a few more months.

i've never had cracking problems with fairtex, btw.
