Hongcouver

I have friends on Vancouver Island and I spent a week there, I loved it. I drove on the outskirts of Vancouver on my way back to Seattle but that's it.

If I had to live in Canada it would be in Vancouver. Richmond also has tons of great Hong Kong style cafes/food which is right next door. Last time I've been there was 10 years ago though. Likely going to Toronto next summer for at least a week and then hit up the NYC, D.C, possibly even Maine for a couple of days each.

It’s great for a couple of days if you have an event to go to but other than that it sucks like most bigger cities.

I don't care for it. It is supposed to be a clean city but every time I go there, the smog is noticeable and I don't care for it. I don't mind it to visit, but I'm ready to leave after a few hours.

Id rather live on the islands, but Vancouver certainly has its appeal. Decent city life, great outdoors life, very diverse.

However, people within Vancouver can be pricks and diversity doesnt necessarily mean better.

The politics are getting ridiculous, to the point where some are leaving for smaller more rural areas. Its getting busier and will continue to as tons of immigrants will be pouring in. Its also a popular port city so the economy will usually always flourish. Always plenty of people with money purchasing out here and startimg businesses.

The infastructure absolutely sucks and will only get worse. There will be construction and traffic issues here for decades into the future...no end in sight. They cant keep up with the population rise.

As it gets more congested and the politics get more liberal, people will have a different outlook on the city. Its already happening.

Nature, weather, location: 9-10
Everything else: Yikes

No it’s not lol nothing is worse than California
Van has definetly gone to shit. I've lived here my whole life. Homeless everywhere, people doing junk in broad daylight, CoL is asinine, continuing to build housing but no other infrastructure has kept up. Waitlists for elementary schools, it's nothing like the late 2000s

Seemed nice until I saw a naked dude riding a bike downtown.

Also wtf Canada has the weirdest streets where all of a sudden people just are parked right in the road.

I don’t disagree my friend. If it were up to me I’d be living in incredible Alberta. But I can’t agree to saying it’s worse than California.. the real human rats live out there and the elite dems are just feeding themselves while everything is going to shits.

I mean, it's in Canada. Should tell you all you need to know.

It was a pretty tidy place when I went there, but that was more that 15 years ago.

From being there, I noticed the familiar mountain range in Rumble in the Bronx.

Should have noticed it from the first viewing, since NYC absolutely does not look like that.

It's great, I just remember it rains a lot.

The North Shore is where it’s at! Vancouver is dope but you’re going to want to live on the North Shore for the most part. Only bad thing I can say is traffic can suck balls sometimes.

Victoria is better.
Living in Vancouver most of my life, I often feel this way. But it's hard to say if it's the tourist effect. Like, if I lived in Victoria, then visited Vancouver, would I feel the opposite?

Living here, I give Vancouver a 7/10. I really do like it here, and often feel spoiled to live in such a beautiful place. When you're at a beach, with friends, sipping one of the many local brews, watching the sunset over the lush mountains, it feels like paradise.

But as everyone knows too well these days, the housing costs are ridiculous, and often the price just isn't justified. We also have this "no fun city" reputation, that our nightlife is pretty lame. That said, I've never had problems going to concerts, and both bigger and smaller acts seem to show here. Then there's the drug problems that have been here as long as I can remember. Gentrication is pushing a lot of these problems around the city as a whole, and when you've seen it for so long, it starts to feel way too normal. More normal than it ever should.

I'd give Victoria an 8/10. Has a lot of the things I like about Vancouver, but with less of the things I don't. And being smaller, it's a much more walkable city. When WFH started to become a reality, I strongly considered moving to Victoria, but eventually opted against it since I wanted to stay in the same city as my family.

All in all, it's a city with it's problems, but for me, it's still a good spot to be.

Beautiful? Yes, in parts, utter shit hole in others (looking at you pigeon park). Very generic and narrow in its entertainment offerings. They don't call it the "no fun" city for nothing (unless you ski/bike/run/rock a camel toe/drink overpriced coffee/eat avocado toast/virtue signal/etc). Super expensive (waaay overvalued, imo). Very overrated overall. In general, the people are very blah and boring, pussies, actually. I love Vancouver Island, though.

Victoria is better.
Agree. If I had to pick between the two, easily Victoria. It's like a small/big town, if that makes sense. Yes, it gets lots of tourists, but it also has a varied nightlife, with much better options than Van. Easier to get around...I love Vic. Has its own vibe, but I love Van Island in general.

I have friends and family in both cities so I’ve spent a lot of time visiting and living part time in them as well. Victoria is just more pleasant. Everything that makes Vancouver great is available in Victoria, and you get it without having to deal with the god awful weather. Victoria has like 3x less rain, it’s not just one of the least rainy cities in BC, but in Canada as a whole. The homelessness and crime have been increasing lately from what I can gather, but that’s not unique to just Victoria.
