Vampire and Werewolf Lore...

My friends and I are pretty geeky. One of our go to discussions is various folk lore. Especially, vampires and werewolves.

We debate as to which we would prefer being. What version (lore wise) would you wish to be? What we would do with our eternity? Who and if we would turn anyone.

Which would you prefer? How would you spend your centuries?

Werewolf seems like they aren't in control of themselves when they turn. They might not remember what they did in that state. Might wake up all fucked up and out of it on the ground in the woods. I already have that ability whenever i drink too much.

There's actually a cryptid that resembles a werewolf, minus the human morphing and such. An upright walking canid, known as the Dogman. There's a radio show that eyewitnesses call into and tell their stories.

Why would you ever want to be a werewolf though? You're just basically a hairy vampire who goes on the rag really bad. I mean, are they even immortal like vampires?

Eh most versions of werewolves have no control over it and don't seem to get much benefit out of it. Vampire easily since I'm a night person anyway.

Werewolves can be cooler, if they hybrid bipedals and not just big wolves like AWwiL. Even better if they can shift anytime and/or are in control when in monster form, like in The Howling.

But long-term, it would probably be better as a vamp. Especially if they are the type to get stronger as they get older.

I'd say being a vampire would be better unless i could be like the Big Bad Wolf from Fables who could turn from human to wolf at his own discretion and was almost immortal.

I voted vampire but it would really depend on what version of werewolf we are talking about.

If we are talking Underworld/Howling type werewolves then that would get my vote. They were pretty badass. But when I think werewolf, I think of the type where the human is not cognizant in werewolf form. He is just a rabid killing machine as in An American Werewolf in London. That is a pretty horrible existence.

There are too many different variations of the vampire, are you talking about a Lugosi type? Werewolves at least have three main types with the wolf man like in the classic Universal film, the bipedal wolf type of The Howling, and the large sinister wolves like in An American Werewolf in London and Ginger Snaps.

I like wolf-men in the movies. I always root for them; especially in Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein.
BUT, there is no question that the life of a vampire > the life of a werewolf.
A vamp is in control, immortal, super powered, and is a super aphrodisiac.
Werewolfs smell like dogs, have no control over their powers -- when they turn, or who they kill - and aren't immortal.
