Covington is not a household name. He has the worst rated UFC card on ESPN.
Guys like Masvidal and Nate Diaz put asses in sit. Covington can't do that.
Maybe if Covington could talk less and fight more, he might be able to get some fans.

Then strip Usman and give him some blingy money title that spins. Champions are supposed to fight the best and most deserving challengers. Yes this is the UFC and there are exceptions and the rare money fight but Usman JUST did one.

I love Nate but he lost to a guy who's now on a what ... 9 fight win streak? There's a contender. Or WB if he wins... Or Colby.

I'm all all for Usman/Nate... But not as a title fight... Not if you want to keep some sort of legitimacy to the belt. This is supposed to have more legitimacy than recent boxing.

Not sure if you've seen it yet but my take on the 5th was that not much was happening early in the round, in terms of connections - Colby landed a few good punches, Usman caught him with a nice high kick and landed good punches as well, which visibly caused Colby some discomfort on account of his jaw being busted and all.

So Colby was maybe edging it until about 20sec before the first KD. Now here's the thing that is key to understanding what actually happened that night: roughly 30 sec before the first KD, Usman starts hurting Colby bad, one shot after another. At that point, Colby seems done and seeing this, Usman really goes after him, which leads to the KDs and the finish. In those 20 seconds, Usman lands more/better shots than Colby did in the round up to that point. So no, Colby was not in the lead until the finish - he was losing the round well before that.

Another thing: the narrative that this was a close, back and forth fight is simply not accurate: one guy was being competitive on points, yes ...but the other guy was staying close on points while also hurting his opponent repeatedly, gradually wearing him down and eventually breaking him. This was not an even fight in which one guy caught the other guy late and finished him. People calling for the rematch now appear to be completely oblivious to what actually happened.

Some very good points you made!! I wanna re-watch the entire fight now, I've only seen it once and that was live. I am gonna look our for what you mentioned, particularly in the 5th round at the point where Usman broke him.

Personally, I think that Usman will make it more convincing in the rematch. And the important thing to consider is that Usman has two fights since Colby's last fight in September, so he's been super active in a really good rhythm. Colby has zero fights this year and Usman has two. He's looked better since they last fought.

First of all, fighters fight for Legacy AND MONEY.

Usman has already captured all the "Legacy" he needs, by basically finishing everybody who is anybody in his division. And yet he's never made any real money.

Please, you incredibly naïve idiots, give the man the right to seek MONEY fights going forward, now that his "Legacy" is undeniable in the history of the division.

Usman has EARNED THE RIGHT for money at this point, going forward.

It's a hard fight for Colby. I personally don't see where he has an advantage in this fight. He's smaller, cardio is more or less the same, he doesn't have the wrestling edge here, Usman has the power advantage. The only thing I can see him doing is where he had success first fight and that's using speed and volume. But the risk in that is even if he lands 2, Usman will land one and that one will count for more cause of the power. The volume did work well in first fight for him, had some of the judges convinced.

Colby pushed Usman more than anyone else. He knows that it’s a fight he could lose.
There’s no risk with Diaz.

Using a little MMA math to make your fake point? Choosing to fight Diaz rather than a legitimate Top 5 WW opponent is not ducking??????? Are you smoking some of Diaz's weed? I love to watch Diaz bang if someone is willing to do a striking battle, but we all know what will happen when Usman fights Diaz. Strategy is just connecting the dots.

You are the moron for pretending Colby didn't do better than anyone else that has fought Usman. Colby had more significant strikes than anyone else. Colby won at least two rounds of the fight (and three rounds for one judge) before he got finished. He didn't get finished until the fifth round. Had the fight gone to the judges it would have likely been a split decision win for somebody.

Could be. One of the main things we would look at normally, leading up to a rematch, would be performances since the loss. Not much to go on from Colby's side..
