Usman Appreciation Thread

I'll admit that I never really rooted for him, as I'm a huge GSP fanboy and was always threatened by Usman'a chance at topping his legacy.

That said - Usman was a great champion. He was an active champion and looked so dominant the past several years until he met Leon again. After GSP, I think he's the clear #2 WW of all time.

I can't really see where he goes from here if he wants to continue fighting. Would he just go back in the mix and fight Belal or Burns again? Hard to picture.

Either way - respect to Usman for doing what he did as champ the past several years. Hope we get more Champs that are as active as he was.

Yeah, Usman defended 3 times in 2021, and fought 3 times in 2018 as well, almost unheard of for such a big name.

Huge credit to him as a champion, classy speech after the fight, I'm glad he's not retiring, and it's not his fault Dana has 0 imagination and kept giving him the same fights over and over.

He was the greatest Defender the River Tribe ever produced.

But seriously, a superb champion. Mauling wrestler. Freakish upper-body strenght. Even did the jab after moving to Witman. (Though I kind of want to see an alternative universe Usman who never left Hooft. That body-kick vs Colby 1 was money).

Great athlete. Incredible top game. Heavy hands.

For sure, man! He's a great fighter and proved to be not nearly as "boring" as his detractors claimed. Personally, I'm excited to see some fresh matchups with Usman fighting back into contention.

He was a great champ?

Since winning the belt he's beaten 4 people.

St Pierre had 13 wins in Championship fights, one in a weight division higher.

Hughes had 9 wins in Championship fights.

1. GSP
2. Hughes

3. Usman

Usman? Never heard of her…is that the welterweight soul snatcher? Judges love him, competitors fear him LMAO

You felt threatened by one athlete over taking another athlete even though you have no direct connection to either?

Second greatest welterweight ever.

Only time he was cool was when he crushed Woodley and KTFO Masvidal

Rest of the time snoozeman is a fairly apt description

You are right in that he was an active champ. Can't ask for a lot more these days. At least we get to see title fights and someone like Leon given his chance.

Didn't expect him to lose to Leon again. I'll have to watch it at some point to see how bad it was.

Usman's a great fighter and I respect what he's done however GSP and Hughes still stand alone as the clear 1 and 2 respectively.

The Nigerian we love to hate

There's always another fight.

I appreciate having fighters i actively root against. Makes the sport more fun.

I’m still a fan. Ordered 3 of his shirts off the UFC store and I’ll probably wear one tomorrow. His title reign was a lot of fun
