Misleading statistics. If you eliminate the 18 and 19 year olds that number is essentially cut in half and not the leading cause. And most of those 18 and 19 y.o. are victims of gang violence, which is a different problem than "guns".Guns the leading cause of death of US children
Lol at "children and teens". Now take out "teen" gang shootings and report back what those numbers are.

But I don't expect you to stop pushing a proven falsified narrative for your side.

This could have easily been prevented if there was a good 0-14 year old with a gun.
So it renders the "guns are the leading cause of child death" that has been going around lately pretty useless, or at best deceptive, when removing gang violence and people who aren't even minors makes that no longer the case. You avoid being specific because when you say "children" you want people to think of some innocent kid getting gunned down, when in reality it's a gang problem in high crime neighborhoods. For me, if someone gets shot dead it counts as 1, however old the person is or what the circumstances were. But you can say certain demographics don't count if you want. These stats are for children aged 0-17. The data on circumstances surrounding the shootings are weak but they do have some. Bear in mind their data only went up to 2014 at the latest and the situation has worsened since then:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6488039/
Firearm-related deaths are the third leading cause of death overall among US children aged 1 to 17 years and the second leading cause of injury-related death. [cars were #1]
Recent evidence from the National Survey of Children’s Exposure to Violence indicates that 4.2% of children aged 0 to 17 in the United States have witnessed a shooting in the past year.
% of homicides of 0-12 aged children which were gang-related: 5%
% of homicides of 13-17 aged children which were gang-related: 21%
[Earlier someone else was saying probably most of the fatal shootings of minors in the USA take place in gun-free zones but this paper gives a maximum for that of 8% for 0-12 and 16% for 13-17.]
International studies indicate that 91% of firearm deaths of children aged 0 to 14 years among all high-income countries worldwide occur in the United States, making firearm injuries a serious pediatric and public health problem in the United States.

So we see that if we take out 18 and 19 year olds, the rates do fall, but by much less than half. In 2014 the leading cause of death of 0-17 year olds was not guns, but whether it is in 2023 or not we don't yet know. Gun deaths amongst 0-17 year olds have increased since 2014. Second place injury killer is still much higher than in comparable countries.
There are no stats for the percentage of 18-19yo gun deaths which were gang violence victims, but the figure for 13-17 year olds being 21% suggests it is probably below 50%. Estimates of the %age of homicides which are gang-related vary from 6% to 13%.

I suggest that if gangs did not have guns they would kill fewer people, so gun availability and gang violence are not in my opinion separate issues.
We all know that the cdc's stats on Covid deaths were above board. I'm sure these are too.
Problem solved.

We need to ban cars they kill so many innocents a year !Great post.
It's morally wrong to be living in denial at this point. People can make what they want out of specific stats, but none of the counterpoints change the fact USA has an horrific gun problem and that 100 percent of gun deaths are completely avoidable - but certainly not by the microwave brain 'more guns' stupidity
The numbers may be correct, but there may be information hidden within the numbers. We all know that the cdc's stats on Covid deaths were above board. I'm sure these are too.
They were all at the gun range with their fathers being responsible and not joining a gang or selling drugs. Lol

Every single one of these incidents were caused by a bad guy with a gun pulling the trigger. I want that to be good guys with guns
This is what happens when you take away the ability for a 0-14 year old to defend themselves
