An indie game that was featured last month at the OTK games expo. Tough to believe it is an indie game; another great looking one under the Nacon publishing umbrella. This is a co-op (up to 4 players) third person adventure that includes extensive combinations in its real-time combat, and also extensive class customization. Built on Unreal Engine 4. So it checks a lot of boxes. It sort of looks like a hybrid of the Shadow of Mordor games with Diablo while the art style is clearly most heavily influenced by the FromSoftware games.

From Nexon, the Korean publisher behind this year's biggest scandalous story in gaming, who sued developer Ironmace over Nexon's allegation a former employee stole massive IP assets towards development of Ironmace's game Dark & Darker, resulting in Steam removing the Early Access of the game via their store, and a police raid on Ironmace's HQ in Korea, to which Ironmace responded by releasing the game via BitTorrent, as mentioned in a previous post. Dark & Darker continues to be among the most watched on Twitch. One can only assume Warhaven is the game Nexon believes their ex-employee purloined towards the development Dark & Darker. The incredible similarity is immediately evident.

There's no Steam page yet. It will definitely launch with its own client similar to Black Desert. Whether or not it is playable via other services like Steam remains to be seen.

Release date: They have promised investors that the game will finish development in 2023. They specifically use the phrase "Finish development" and have not used the word "release". Source: 22:30 February Earnings call

Is it an MMO?: No. it is a singleplayer game. Source: May 2023 Gameindustry.biz interview

What about multiplayer?: They stated that there will not be multiplayer on launch, but that it might be considered after the release of the game. Source: 28:23 February Earnings call

Can you create your own character?: Our latest information is that the game tells the story of a premade character called MacDuff. They have not confirmed this for a while. Source: 2020 Screenrant article (warning: Old article may have outdated information). Official website seems to support this. It also implies that you will be able to recruit companions

Is the game related to Black Desert Online?: They say the game is set in its own separate world, but from observations, you can see that it has some similarities to the Black Desert world. Is the game a live service/always online title?: When asked why PearlAbyss would make a singleplayer game when multiplayer games are not only increasingly popular as Games-as-a-service, but also their area of expertise, PearlAbyss replies that they see value in both models, and are implying that Crimson Desert will not be a Live service title at least. Will the game have microtransactions?: Someone else can correct me if I am misremembering. PearlAbyss said that they believe in games with long legs that allow a community to grow up around the game. And states that DLC, Expansions, Sequels and other large [content] updates are a way to grow a community for a Singleplayer game that is not a live service. Source: May Gameindustrybiz interview

Is Crimson Desert using the same engine as Black Desert Online?: No, the game is using a new engine called BlackSpace engine, specifically made for Crimson Desert and DokeV (and potentially future titles). Source: 2021 IGN Interview

Where is the desert?: Good question, I got no good answers.

What systems is Crimson Desert releasing on?: PC is confirmed. As of 14th of August 2023 PearlAbyss stated that any talks about Playstation or Xbox exclusivity was inconclusive. So right now it is believed to release on current gen Xbox and Playstation. Source: 37:24 February earnings call

Been following this game since it's trailer release and unfortunately been in their discord since 2021 lol. Glad to see things moving forward. I watched the original trailer and the new trailer back to back and it got me more hyped than I was when I watched the new one yesterday. The new trailer kind of skips out on the serenity some parts of the game provides. Looking forward to DDTing some people in the future.

Swery is best known for the Deadly Premonition video games, while Suda51 is best known for the No More Heroes series and Lollipop Chainsaw. Swery most recently released 2021 role-playing game The Good Life. Suda51's latest game is No More Heroes 3, which came out on Nintendo Switch in 2021 before launching on other platforms last year.

Hotel Barcelona is a time looping action game influenced by the history of horror movies, including Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. It offers "2.5D slasher film parodic action", and features a giant man wearing baseball gear. You fight everything from alien-like beings to serial killers. It's as bizarre a game as you'd expect from Swery and Suda51.
