Umberto Eco died today- anyone a fan? I have read a few of his novels, non fiction books and essays. Sad to hear of his passing and knowing that he wont be producing any more writing. :(

I'm a fan of his work and from what I gather he was brilliant in person too. A great loss for Italian literature and culture, that's for sure.

I read only "Baudolino" and of course "Il nome della rosa", i really liked the first

the island of the day before was a very weird read, in a good way. his essays, especially the ones he kept writing in the latter years, are pretty good.

i've read The name of the rose by him, it is simply put brilliant

Brilliant guy. Sad news.

… The first quality of an honest man is contempt for religion, which would have us afraid of the most natural thing in the world, which is death, and would have us hate the one beautiful thing destiny has given us, which is life,”

Nice quote.
Not sure I agree with that 100%, but I can dig it

I'm familiar with his work but haven't read him much. Brilliant by most accounts and focused on the oft-overlooked philosophy of language.
