Umar vs Yan is destined to be an all-timer

It's a fantastic potential fight, but Umar needs to sort his shit out to compete against Yan.

Merab out-cardioing and breaking him is such a bad look, but you either bounce back like Yan did or you continue to crumble.

How bad do you want it, Umar?

Umar has pretty damn good cardio.

Merab broke everyone with the cardio except Yan because Yan exposed the secret to gassing someone with endless cardio,

knocking the wind out of them with body shots.

I agree with your sentiment, but Yan also has that Merab-esque cardio. It isn't just that he sapped Merab with body shots.

That's going to be where Umar wins or loses - can he match it? He couldn't against Merab, what says he can against Yan?

I think it's going to be positional warfare.

There is a big difference for Umar going against someone who grapples 5 rounds like Merab than someone who is going to want to strike like Yan.

The question will be if Umar's grappling is good enough to steal rounds and make Yan tentative on the feet because I feel Yan is otherwise the better striker.

Yeah, I think Umar is definitely good enough to cause Yan problems in a way Merab couldn't this time, I don't doubt his skill level at all - sounds crazy to speak about a Nurmagomedov like this, but I really do question his heart (cardio being a byproduct) for the simple reason he is fighting the very, very best and already been found wanting once.

For what it's worth, I also had the same questions about Yan.

If this fight happens, it will be off-the-charts in terms of skill level, so you've really got to dig deep to find the biggest weakness in the match up.

Umar's kicking game is going to be hard for Yan and also the speed I think. Honestly I am not so sure Yan wins the Merab rematch as Merab looked just as dominant in fight 1 as Yan looked last night.

Merab will never see that rematch I'm afraid.

Umar's so fucking talented but he doesn't seem to be as mentally tough and gritty as Petr and Merab.

Petyr looks unbeatable.

He outwrestled merab and punished him striking. Any other man besides merab would have been finished.

Petyr would be the heavy favorite in my eyes and im looking forward to seeing someone obliterate team khabib.
Due to his losses and prep for Merab , Petr has evolved tremendously as a fighter. The only issue is he reserves his energy and slows things down quite a bit. Now he pulled it off against Merab which is tremendous but a young lion like Umar can be an issue. However I don’t see this being easy for Umar in a 5 rounder. He still gassed in the third against figs.
