Ultimate 80's Memories Thread - Part 2 - The 80s Strikes Back

I still watch them on YouTube.

Me too. Can find almost anything which is cool.

Kids today will never know what it was like to have a brand new channel just play music videos. Before it became a reality show network we had crazy VJs, Michael Jackson masterpieces, synth pop weirdness, Glam Metal, Headbangers ball on Saturday nights. Later we had Yo MTV Raps. If you were an 80s kid especial mid eighties, it was always on. Music was just more important then....you wanted the b sides, the album liner notes, to see the videos. MTV Unplugged was amazing. The 80s had a soundtrack, then the 90s did. What does today have? Drake? Dabbing? Teen mom? Kardassian bs?

The early 80s when MTV first came out was the best. Fucking crazy videos.

These guys look like real life 80s action figures. I love it! I watched the movie a few months ago and although it's definitely cheesy and not nearly as good as Conan, it was still a fun watch.

  • Battlestar Galactica Cylon Coasters (set of 4): Awesome coasters! I like the cork backing to prevent it from sliding around. I couldn’t get into the show but I heard it’s really good.

  • DC Comics Heroes magnet set: I received this from a previous month’s Retro Pop Box (1970s version). Let me tell you, they’re awesome magnets! They really do keep lots of things sticking to the refrigerator.
  • Joystick sticker.
  • Bonus sticker.

Conclusion: I think 1Up Box and Loot Crate have a up-and-coming competitor. Retro Pop Box is a pretty good box, and it’s super fun to dive into a bunch of retro-inspired goodies. I love my Marvel and my DC Comic heroes, but I also love my retro pop culture too. For $20 /mo, it’s not bad. You can sign up for your own Retro Pop Box here.

I just watched Sleepaway Camp for the first time. It's a surprisingly good 80s slasher movie. (Please, no one drop any spoilers - it's worth seeing totally blind). I loved the set locations and the seriousness of the movie overall.

The second one is basically a sequel in name only and goofy as all hell, but still mildly enjoyable. But the first is easily the best. I'm definitely gonna pick it up on BD.

Did you know about the ending before you watched Sleepaway Camp?

I made a thread about the ending a couple of years back....

I had heard several years prior, I think on a VH1 countdown of horror movies, about the ending. By the time I watched it I thought that might have been the case (I figured it was this movie they were talking about), and it turned out to be true. I wasn't super shocked, but I still thought the film overall was really cool. The final shot and how it blends into the credits with that music was creepy as hell though.

There is something about 80s pop culture that is so soothing and comforting to me. I remember some kids at my high school performed a play based off the breakfast club. 80s retro was popular back then. I guess 80 and 90s retro is so popular because today's pop culture sucks ass.
