Ultimate 80's Memories Thread - Part 2 - The 80s Strikes Back

They just don't make them like they used to. I just watched the "Making of" special and you know if it was made today it'd be all bland and lifeless CGI and wouldn't have nearly the same affect.

Really makes you miss and appreciate the good old days.

Damn... I was just about to post that "The Making of Thiller" video. I also agree that if they tried to make a video like "Thiller" now... it would be terrible with fake looking CGI everywhere.

In the video below Vincent Price does his Thriller speech on the Joan Rivers show.

VINCENT PRICE - PERFORMS OMINOUS VOICE USED ON MICHAEL JACKSON'S "THRILLER" - 1987

They don't make cool vids like this any more:

So i am sitting at work with a few younger co workers and this one lady pulls out her phone and is showing pics .. Apparently there is an app or something that can make photos look like this video (hand drawn i guess?) so i look and say 'damn, looks like an aha video!' ... They all look at me, look at each other , shrug and keep showing pics . Hahaha

Thoughts from the 80's:
  1. Horror movies when they were actually good
  2. Samantha Fox
  3. Posters
  4. Audio tapes
  5. Mix Tapes
  6. Sierra Games - Kings Quest, Space Quest, etc...
  7. Atari
  8. Commodore 64
  9. Rotary phone
  10. When the push button phone came out and the power of redial especially when you have to call a foreign country
  11. 2-way calling
  12. VCR's
  13. Be Kind and Rewind
  14. Video Stores
  15. Leg Warmers
  16. Girls wearing denim miniskirts
  17. When you ordered something waiting 6 to 8 weeks for delivery was the norm
  18. Putting a screwdriver in the carburetor to start it in the morning
  19. Boomboxes so big you got a workout carrying them
  20. Break-dancing
  21. A-Team
  22. Dukes of Hazard
  23. Mr. T
  24. David Copperfield on regular channels once a year
  25. Saturday morning cartoons
  26. Sneaking downstairs to watch the cinemax movies late at night
  27. KUNG FU THEATRE
  28. When kung fu/ninja movies were coming out all the time
  29. Karate Kid
  30. ET

And much more but have to stop at some point.

That video is a classic. Now I must find this app

Just watched "Secret Admirer." Freaking FANTASTIC movie.

I wont spoil the movie outright, but like a lot of movies, the guy ultimately has to "choose," and most movies like this, it's usually between a hot beautiful girl and an ugly nasty girl (Nadia vs Michelle) and usually every time the guy goes with the ugly girl, because for some reason "hot = bad choice" but in this movie, both the main character's options are hella hot. So it's a win/win either way. I love that.

Just watched Three O'Clock High. Pretty good movie. I thought it was funny.

I wonder why Richard Tyson never got more A-level roles in Hollywood? The dude is cool and a good actor. But the only three things I ever recall seeing him in were Three O'Clock High, Black Hawk Down, and Kindergarten Cop.

Dude was great in that movie. I should re-watch, been a long time. I forget though, what was the beef Buddy had with him, was it all just because he touched his arm or something?

Yeah. The main guy tries to talk to him in the bathroom and ends up slapping his arm.

Love that move. Had a massive crush on Lori Loughlin.

Dude, she was FINE (and still is). Normally with movies like this (American Pie, Some Kind of Wonderful, etc) where the guy has to choose between two girls, it's always between a super hot one and a fucking ugly one. But Secret Admirer was the first movie I've ever seen where BOTH girls were hot as fuck.

Ha top right corner, Dragon's Lair. I was literally just talking about that the on friday with a buddy of mine. Talked about how when it came out, it was awesome because the game was basically a cartoon and everyone wanted to play it. Think it was like a $1.00 or $1.50, something like that to play which was expensive at that time

And I've never seen Secret Admirer, but if it has both Kelly Preston and Lori Laughlin in it then I gotta check it out

Speaking of Some Kind of Wonderful, in the early 2000s I ran into Mary Stuart Masterson in Central Park. Kind of random.

I thought it was $.50 when it came out. Every other game was $.25.

I never even heard of it before like 3 weeks ago. I saw it on someone's Top 10 list and checked it out and freaking loved it.
