UFC's Colby Covingtom wrestled last night & beat "Tyquil Woodley"

Hey Frankie I’m just curious about your comment about what wrestling fans want.

I was always a big wrestling fan in the 80s to maybe 15 or so years ago.

What does the audience want and what do they get?
Just curious.

Biggest gripe & reason a lot stopped watching is lack of cohesive storylines & too much over-management.
WWE has over 25 writers now. Everything is over-scripted & artificial.
Performers have very little freedom now.
Plus Vince likes to control things to a ridiculous point.
They can't say ...
Hospital ... it is "local medical facility"
Title shot ... it is "championship opportunity"
Crowd ... it is "WWE universe"
Etc

So a wrestler cuts a promo that says "Now that I am out of the local medical facility, I cannot wait to thrill the WWE universe when I get my return championship opportunity"
It just seems artificial
Plus the older Vince gets, the less focus is on the actual product & more on the gaga surrounding it & they are not good at it.

From what I've seen the problem is writer's lack of ability to create interesting storylines or angles despite having so many writers. This along with performers little freedom to perform the way they want is problematic. You can't do much with the scripted promos and limited character traits. Also they don't seem to acknowledge the crowds favorite wrestlers and just push the guys they like.
I don't watch the weekly shows anymore but I read some reports and checked out the 25 year anniversary show. It's telling how the highlight reel package from the shows history mainly had stuff from years ago and barely anything recent.

As in they I mean Vince since he seems to still completely run the show.

Yep ... the writers job is to please Vince
There is a podcast called The Writers Room that various ex-WWE guys do & they all say the exact same thing
That there are some good writers but they have to make one guy happy & that is Vince & its frustrating because he veto's good stuff, changes his mind hourly & they have to dumb down everything to please him & keep their job

If only one over 70 year old man could face the facts, put his ego to the side and let the younger generation step in..
Easier said than done with this guy.

The things he does right are phenomenal though
He turned Mania into an attraction that only the Super Bowl beats (as far as a one-off event)
His big-picture vision is incredible as far as scope
He is just way off the pulse in 2018 of what people want

The way MMA fans act towards wrestling is so strange (I don't mean @spannered - he is a decent poster)
I'm not a big fan of current WWE (although I still follow the business closely - like I do with MMA), but its harmless. fun entertainment.
I get disliking it, but the need to go into thread that has a PW correlation just to say silly shit is insipid & says more about the member than anything else.
If you don't like something, don't go into threads about it.
Pretty simple.
I think video games are childish, but I don't go into threads about them just to say it.
No, that's fair enough. I think the assumption people like me make with pro wrestling = for kids, is because it's basically designed for kids. I watched it when I was a kid. I certainly stopped once I found MMA, and I would have stopped in my teenage years regardless.

But the same can apply to movies. I don't like silly action flicks, and I struggle to see why an adult would be lining up to see Transformers 8 or whatever they are up to.

I think the preconceptions about pro wrestling come down to the theatrics of it: it's these giant men dressing up as superheroes and engaging in scripted play fighting. Who is that going to generally appeal to? Kids. Not to say that adults can't enjoy it, but it's a bit unorthodox. A good fighter that I trained with for years and made it to the UFC watches Dragon Ball Z. Like, religiously. He's nearly 30 now, and while I don't understand it and I would constantly give him shit about it...it's not like it bothered me. Its just his thing.

Each to their own. Believe me, a big chunk of the population think we are weird for being into a sport where guys bash each other half to death.

I can't believe anyone over the age of 11 watches movies or TV. It's all scripted!!!
Haha yeah, you got me. I watch movies and TV shows, but the content is targeted towards adults.

Pro wrestling is not targeted to adults. In the same way I'm not going to lose my mind over an adult watching cartoons, I just don't understand it.

I'm not ignorant enough to think everyone thinks like me, but alas, it's just my thoughts on the matter.

So. He didn’t wrestle Tyron? So. What you’re saying this?

I think Tyquil is actually Tyron Woodley's real name. He's born Tyquil Lakent Woodley (that is what files are suggesting). Colby apparently saw his birth certificate in ATT.

Colbys persona was likely inspired from pro wrestling heels.

Likely inspired? Pretty sure he grew up watching wrestling and he's done some regional show work now. The dude absolutely knows what he's doing and he's playing the obnoxious, easy to hate heel all the way.

I feel sorry for anyone who seriously believes Colby is anything at all like the character he's playing on social media and in all these videos. The dude just understands the game.

Wouldn't be surprised if this whole feud he's got with Dana at the moment is completely fabricated as well. I'm sure Dana is in on it completely.
