Best case for the UFC- Jon Jones beats Gane in spectacular fashion, they get to drive a narrative that Ngannou could only do it with some lay and pray and a close decision while Jones got the finish. They'll push the idea that Ngannou ducked Jones.

Mid- Gane wins by any avenue. Gane is the UFC HW champ, but lost to Ngannou in his last title fight, so the new champ feels like it has an asterisk while the actual champ is off doing who knows what

Worst case- Gane wins, or even Jones wins, but it's an incredibly boring fight. Jones’ last 3 fights were kinda boring, play it safe decisions. When not matched up with slow HWs like Tai or Lewis, Gane has 2 sorta boring decision wins over Volkov and especially Rozenstruick. Both guys have the play it safe when needed mindset in them.

If this HW title fight is a dud/glorified sparring session, I could see it being another instance where Dana doesn't put the belt on the champ in the cage.

there is only scenario that's gonna play out here....Jon is winning...he will look dominate because the UFC will see to it .....francis will come back biggest UFC fight in years everyone gets paid even Gane who took that take a dive money....there is not plan B.....there is only plan A

I agree with everything until the last line. Even if the fight sucks he will put that belt on and will try to spin it as being good. He kind of has to. Not putting the belt on would be an admission of defeat.

They are banking on Jones taking Gane down and finishing him. That way they can do exactly what you said on the top part of the post.

The salt that a jones win would produce would be epic.. that must be the best case scenario..

Jones* is going to piss hot and/or go on a violent bender. Whether it happens before or after the fight is irrelevant. That is the worst case scenario, and it is very likely.

I look forward to the day Sherdog collectively learn the difference between dominate and dominant.

Doesn't he still have a few years of pulsing left?

Best case scenario:
Gane knocks out Jones in the first round.
Ngannou realizes how cold it is outside the UFC, comes back, gets finishes by Gane twice.
Gane continues to be HW Champ, easy to work with, and defends the belt often.

This is a really good point, actually, that the pressure on this fight isn't just on the fighters individually to win the heavyweight belt, the pressure is on them to make this fight a spectacular main event and pave the way for more exciting heavyweight title fights going forwards.

Everything's there: the names, the intrigue, the fact it's a super fight that spans divisions - but if the fight sucks, the UFC really are back to square one.

It could go either way. I can see it being a super exciting, relatively fast-paced, heavy artillery, multi-levelled fight, or it could be an equivalent to Ketlen-Pennington, where all they do is through one strike at a time, then it gets returned, and so on, as both are equally aware of the others obvious capabilities.

Good post! Let's hope these two deliver.

LOL addressing the grammar and not the post ....that means you have no answer to what I said....LMBOOOOOOOOOOOOO

worst case:

Jones vs Gane = Ngannou vs Lewis

that would kinda be hilarious. But also suck.

Whoever wins, I just hope he starts defending at least twice a year.

Best Case Scenario - Gane KO's Jones. Francis tries his hand a boxing and gets KO'd, comes back and Gane KO's him again.
We get a fresh new champ that is young, skilled and eager to fight. We actually get to see people fight for the HW title more than once a year.

Worst Case Scenario - Jones wins and either test hot or just decided to leave. Francis gets KO'd in boxing.
We would be stuck with no real champ. Could make for some fun finding a new one though.
