Why hasn't anyone discussed the elephant in the room? It's like Mercedes acknowledging that Lexus exists. Or how Enzo treated Ferrucio the farmer.

I've been watching the UFC brand since 1993 when it was a tournament where events were not based on holding a belt in a weight category...and Bellator has kinda brought it back.

This takes a true risk. I think UFC should have biannual tournaments as a throwback but keep original rules but only on 19+ ppv. Imagine Connor fighting 3 fights in one night? Or Cain Velasquez... and an all submission Metamoris style tournament based on points. I think there should be fighter team sponsors but not on their shorts. The fighters need a collective bargaining union to make this happen...

More to come...

I don't understand the thread. Bellator hasn't had tournaments since Coker took over.

It's also not a competition.

I can't take Bellator seriously. Such a stupid name.

wsof had a tourny it fell apart with injuries

I'm trying to transcend the obvious which are unknown fighters as they're mktg machine creates little hype compared to the UFC. However, healthy competition is necessary to keep up the standards. Are fans getting the maximum effort from a promoter? No. Why? Cuz...

...the real competition is boxing.

Viacom has more loot than Zuffa...either they're going to invest more or always be second, which to me is blooty useless. Content is everything. Be the Yankees. Be Ecclestone. Be Berlusconi. Be a wealthy twat and buy #1.

tournaments suck, bad for business, bad for fighters, more injuries, more time off

Bellator is a joke compared to the UFC

This thread is about 6 years too late

Bellator WAS awesome, when it started out and for about 4 years after, it was a perfect understated product.

Now it is what it is, but it isn't Bellator any more. When Viacom took over and eventually brought in Coker, they should have changed the name completely.

I can't stress enough how much I miss the weekly Bellator tournament format, truly gutted it has been bastardized

Bellator is shaping up... they have some outstanding fighters besides the guys they are picking up from UFC. Sometimes its cool to see some relatively unknowns try to make a name for themselves than some high profile fighters just phoning it in for a huge payday.... a few of my favorites off the top of my head are... Caldwell, MVP, Bubba Jenkins, McGeary, Minakov, Brooks, Straus, Caveman Rickles, Korshekov, Brennan Ward, Halsey, the Polish bjj guy (Machineheld) bunch of others I cant recall at the moment.

The tournament format was brilliant though... I really miss that.
