considering how they're paying their MMA fighters, i don't think this will be some groundbreaking deal for BJJ's biggest stars.

i hope i'm wrong, but i wouldn't trust dana with anyone's career.

Right now the best way to make money in jiu jitsu is make a name for yourself in competition, then start selling instructionals.

If it helps talented athletes get their name out there, it can help a lot.

But I also don't see Dana paying athletes much in a direct way. And one should never trust Dana.

what i meant to say is that the UFC is known to give very restrictive contracts to their athletes, and pay them shit.

maybe it turns out great and all these guys get paid a bunch of cash and get a lot of exposure. maybe the UFC botches the whole thing and they're all contractually forbidden to compete anywhere outside the UFC for years.

Oh I hear you, my sad face was not for your opinion but for Dana's history with contracts and fighter pay.

In a weird way I think it's actually easier to make money on the bjj instructional market for a famous competitor than it is for a similarly famous mma fighter. Bernardo Faria and BJJ fanatics have helped a ton of jiu jitsu competitors financially, far more than having to be on a semi permanent seminar tour to pay your mortgage.

I am all for it, this will bring many more to BJJ, Brazil has many schools and practitioners that tried MMA and are not ready for it and have not thought of competing. Dana will find many or much new talent, and clean the sport of Roids.

But what should the name be? I think it should be UBJJC.
Ultimate Brazilian Jujitsu Championships. (if someone else has the name buy its rights).

Where is Craig Jones getting all this money????

Craig Jones gives BJJ stars a million reasons not to sign with the UFC

~So much UFC hate, ONE has the many signed to exclusive contracts that are worse than anything UFC can come up with.
IBJJF and FloGrappling are big players that have been criticized for pay and other issues. ONE Championship has had various controversies and questionable finances. ADCC, ADXC and AJP all get money from controversial Abu Dhabi royals. Craig Jones Invitational (CJI) has “anonymous donors” funding their $1 million tournaments. Many other pro leagues also pop in and out with undisclosed backing.

News just in! UFC have decided to go back on the deal.
The site of Rickson's son jumping guard then getting slammed and KTFO 3 seconds later was too much.

The rumor was that Craig is friends with a Qatari billionaire who was happy to support the sport while pissing off rival billionaires in UAE.

But CJI 2024 was extremely successful by all viewership metrics so he may have more diversity of major sponsors for 2025.

An Octagon Pit is best arena. No cage, no raised platform, no flat mat they go out of bounds on...

Karate Combat did it better but Yamma Pit Fighting was the original:

And CJI showed how much more exciting grappling matches can be. If you try to back up "out of bounds" you just slide back down without control, you can't wall walk up it like on a cage, and the angle prevents you from driving off effectively when you're on bottom.

The Pit was first done by The World Combat League (WCL) was a full contact, team-based kickboxing promotion. It was founded by movie star and martial artist Chuck Norris.

Did WCL actually use the pit from the start, when they debuted in 2005? Yamma debuted their pit/cage combo in April 2008 and I remember WCL using it too but for some reason thought they stole it from Yamma. If it's the other way around, I stand corrected.
