UFC switch to PFL format

As much as I like watching the PFL, I hate when a loser can proceed on because the person who beat them is too compromised to continue. I don't want that in the UFC.
Tournaments dont always tell us who the best fighter is. It comes down to durability and luck alot of the time. More than once we seen someone who already lost,win the thing

Dana should put up like 5 million and then we'd see who really believe they're the best and who ducks live competition.
conor and khabib aint fighting more than once a night for 5 mil

Then have alternates fighting in bouts and winner of that fight can jump in if someone can't continue.

Dana's terrified of tournaments...they don't allow him to manipulate things as easily.
tournaments can be very advantageous for manipulation if you control the brackets as pride did

But we get that now. Gus vs Cormier happened after Gus lost to rumble.
Yoel vs Izzy
Iaquinta vs Khabib
And countless others happened due to injury and in some cases with a fighter coming off a loss.

You can say the same for any sport. In the NBA or NFL etc. there are teams who've beaten the champion of that year.

Please lets not compare fight sports to ball games. Its not even remotley the same.

Yes,so no need to do a tourney then since we dont learn much from it anyway

It won't work in my opinion. Two things can happen:
1) Too many injuries, especially under USADA, meaning too many substitutes advance further or can even reach the final;
2) Wall n'stallers and lay n' prayers will dominate - they will lay down on someone and infilict even less damage to conserve energy; with their style the chance of getting injured is quite small;

I don't see the need for a tournament these days, there's nothing you can get from one that you can't get from matchmaking.

Exactly it made more sense back then because there were less fighters and more disorganization. Also UFC didnt have the monopoly they do now

Maybe not as crazy as pfl because fighters would possibly fight compromised but I’m all for a bellator tournament format where fighters get appropriate rest and continue in their bracket

So why is it so bad that the winner of a tournament has lost to someone in the tournament? Luck plays a role in MMA.

The tournament isn't to find out who's the best. We all know that fighters can have good and bad days. Cain - JDS, Conor - Nate etc.

No incentive for the fighters to do something that doesnt show who the best is anymore. No money to afford the best fighters to compete in it.

Good point. But maybe they could be useful for unranked fighters, to see who moves up. TUF is essentially a tournament.

Hey conor you wanna fight in a tou

it is
thats a scenario where it makes more sense

Tournaments are more exciting, legitimate and meritocratic than any other format imo.

It's an entertainment sport anyway. Tournaments are entertaining. Pride had tournaments and regular champions, it didn't detract from anything.

Incentive for winning the tournament should be prestige and a big fucking sum of money.

Also, what do you mean no money? UFC has money.

Yes but thats the trick. The money would be too big to have anyone worthy to participate.
The top fighters make alot. How can they afford paying them for 3 fights a night. Also some fighters have it in their contracts that they get paid a lump sum simply to appear,and not an amount to fight thats doubled if you win. The way things ae today is too complicated and by the book and the best fighters make too much money,and even if they wanted to pay them that,its not really a good reason to be in it,cos they could advance far without having to go through this shit.

The way ufc is structured, a tournament is just a much harder way to get a title shot than just doing it the normal way.
