UFC programmes and interviews outside of the live events (UFC Now, The Schmo, Dan Hardy etc..)

I mean it's fucking hilarious, who gives a fuck about interviwers in any other sports other than on Sherdog? I swear, it must be those interviwers who posts here about themselves.

Pretty much the majority of fans who want to see the interviews pre and post fight, their insights, enjoy watching the sports, talking about it, learning about it, you know fans.

You see those numbers on the Youtube video's, that's fans watching them.

Can you imagine sports with no interviews or nothing, be pretty shit wouldn't they?

If I happen to catch Ariel's shows live I'll stream them from my phone to my TV from the Youtube app and just have them playing while I'm working or whatever otherwise I'll just catch up on the clips and interviews with the fighters I'm interested to hear.

Dan Hardy's breakdowns are really good, there's a UK show called Open Mat too which he's just started doing for BT Sport. It's not as good as Inside The Octagon but it's still good though :)

I don't think I've seen that either, what's this on? :)

That's on Schaubs Showtime channel thingy.

Ah right, I've not watched as much Brendan Schaub as much as I probably should, I've seen bits and quite a few things etc.. and I've gotta be honest a lot of the things he's said have been pretty good but I've just never really got into his show if you get what I mean, I'm kinda the same with Joe Rogan.

UFC Now is the best one simply cause of how they break it down in the various segments, then you'll have the roundhouse with the guests going against each other that you can also interact with too with the questions, they'll talk about each fighter in the up and coming main event, do a quick fire segment and top 5 various lists each fighter will put together, IE Top 5 born to fight, top 5 specialists, Top 5 must watch fighters etc.. the guests will choose, it's just really good but I probably should watch more Joe Rogan and Schaub at some point too as Ariel's I do really enjoy and I think he gets a bit too much stick to be honest.

Lukes show is on his channel but i don't enjoy watching Schaub, or even Rogan. They are the Skip Bayless of MMA and will say what they think gets most attention. Very little research goes into Brendans breakdowns and he generally guesses things based on old fighter tenancies opposed to recent ones. Rogan doesn't even believe half of what he says either.

I see, I guess Skip Bayliss is a US journalist type thing though I get what you mean with that anyway :)

Yeah, I think Dan Hardy is by far the best when it comes to the analytical breakdowns etc. some of the things he presents and shows us on Inside The Octagon (specially when he's using the screen and highlighting things) are so good, you watch them and it's like "Oh yeah" but we may not have ever noticed that before or picked up on things in their game which he highlights and are very good.

A lot of the times we'll watch fighters and think they are just doing things "Just because" yet many times every little move, step etc. is all part of their game and training which Dan really showcases and then when it comes to watching the fights on the night, you notice these things hence why I say he's a fountain of knowledge and it passes on to us too through this.

So many times I watch fighters now and see them do things I wouldn't have noticed, picked up on or thought was any specific strategy that I now know now and it's great.

I hope Dan's around for a long time doing this cause he really is fantastic at them. Same with the UFC Now show too, it's just so good.

Nobody in other sports really care much about who does the interviews, and those interviewers don’t have their own fanboys.

Yes they do, they have them in boxing, wrestling, pretty much every sports has a handful of interviewers and other shows which people enjoy.

If people enjoy them, great, if they don't, that's great too.

Also, if you read the thread it's not just about interviewers (that's a part of it), other shows etc... that UFC show outside of the events, which of course people watch.

Unless you're gonna say no other sports has these shows people watch either and those shows in other sports don't have their own fanboys too.

Another thing, why do people use the term fanboys as a way to degrade people? It's like people don't want to say they like things cause some one will say "Oh you're a fanboy" - No, they're a person that enjoys the shows, interviews, person or team and if that means they're a fanboy (in whoever's opinion) then so be it.

I don't really see why people say that to people as if to degrade them or whatever, it's like trying to manipulate or something.

Nobody nuthugs journos and interviewers in other sports the way they fans do in mma. I’ve been on all kinds of sports forums, combat sports in particular. If an interview gets posted, it’s “check out this athlete A interview” or “this interview with fighter x was pretty good.” Sherdog you have “Ariel talked to so and so” or “new Schmo interview.” They’re putting the interviewer ahead of the athlete. It’s ridiculous.

BTW, “fanboy” is a term used to describe someone who is incapable of speaking rationally about a given subject. Their fanaticism is that great.

Ah ok, yeah the fanboy thing gets thrown about too much then, like I'll see it all the time and if someone has a different opinion on something (which is fine) you'll see one of them calling them a fanboy when really it's just different vibes which surely people can debate on. I think sometimes if someone see's someone is a fan of a certain fighter and they're praising that fighter you will get some people calling them a fanboy, simply because they don't agree with their sentiment.

But yeah I get what you mean, they shouldn't be put above the athlete, they're just there to enhance the athlete and bring out their personalities more (something The Schmo does when you see fighters enjoying their interviews with him), it is ultimately about the fighter at the end of the day and these guys are just good at getting the best out of them.

It's like certain interviewers have ways of delivering interviews, they also are some better than others that ask the questions we want to know (which we'd otherwise not get). For example I enjoy Ariel Helwani over Joe Rogan which is probably why I've watched Ariel's shows more than I have Rogan's.

In regards to the shows though, it's a completely different thing as these are set out so differently covering different things, this is what I love about UFC Now as they'll have the show split into various segments with the guests (usually two fighters and Karyn Bryant) giving insights, thoughts etc. which is really good. Then they'll have a roundhouse where they'll go up against each other with various questions, a top 5 segment on a specific theme each fighter will put together and then the rapid fire, it's just really good.

I completely get what you mean, I just think it shouldn't be thrown out as easy as it often is just because someone is a fan of someone and is praising that person if that makes sense (you can usually tell when someone can't be neutral out of favouritism).
