I have not been paying attention closely, but I get the impression that 2015 is turning out to be a really good year for the UFC as far as PPV's go, compared to 2014 when there wasn't any staggering PPV buys. Since the UFC doesn't release official numbers we can only speculate.

And I just happened to notice that 2015 so far has also been really good for Hollywood box-office numbers compared to 2014, when you would have assumed that Netflix really made a dent in the movie industry. There have been three movies released in 2015 that grossed over 1 Billion USD so far, compared to 2014 when there was only one. And depending on how well Mission: Impossible RN and the new James Bond movie will do, there could be five movies that would have grossed a billion before the year ends. That's pretty remarkable.

Since Sherdog Heavies is filled with self-made multi-millionaires with PhD's, I am just wondering why this has happened and is there any special connection between both industries?

Ronda Rousey
/thread

am I doing it right?

I don't think there is a correlation
2014 was plagued with injuries plus Conor & Ronda happened to become big stars in 2015.
Also Jones vs Cormier was moved from 2014 to early 2015.

That new Mission Impossible movie was actually pretty fucking awesome. Even with crazy Scientology cutting height Tom Cruise.

Rousey definitely must feel pimp right now, but she alone can't be that reason. I want to add that CM Punk will probably make his debut this December according to his interview wit Ariel H., and would most likely cause a lot of PPV buys as well.

And Star Wars too?

Anyway, it's just a coincidence. Jones had a grudge match, Anderson Silva returned, Ronda Rousey became a star, possibly helped by her movie roles, Conor got his title shot.

It just happened that nothing major was going on star-value wise last year. GSP retired, Anderson injured, Conor injured then built up to what he became in the 2nd half of the year, Jones only fought Glover Teixeira, and his fights with Gus and Cormier fell through.

You could credit UFC 182 Jones/Cormier to 2014 though to be fair to the year, since that was the end of year show and it just happened to fall in 2015.

How could I have missed Star Wars? lol

Aside from Rousey highlighting in both industries, it could very well be a coincidence. But the thing is, what has been replied so far is that 2015 just so happened to have more star power with PPV's, while not addressing the similar consumer jump from 2014 to 2015 in both sectors. There must be something else at work IMO.

It could be due to better employment rates in the U.S. I don't live there, maybe it has to do with a different marketing scheme both sectors employ that I'm not familiar with. Youtube ads? Social media?

Star Wars this year will likely do a billion.
