UFC poor performance institute?

Must have been using the underwater one, that's where it all went wrong.

I'm honestly though really curious what his workout regimen was because he looked more muscular than ever. I guess going on jogs doesn't make you punch harder than a ford escort
That right and if this fight was underwater he would have had the fight in the bag.

Old school boxers with great cardio were all about pushing through lactic acid pain and just grinding out the reps.

Best example is Marvin hagler who ran in army boots.

Straight up hill sprints or long distance run. No need to complicate it with oxygen masks or any gimmicky futuristic equipment.

to me isn't the worst thing ever that he gassed but he had 0 wrestling lol at that

The same thing happened with Conor in the Mayweather fight.

I feel like a cardio boss after an hour on my gym treadmill...but I can't last more than 25 mins running on road.

Road work is key for cardio.

Yeah exactly. Francis could drop 20 lbs and get his cardio on point and he'd still get wrestle fucked to death by Stipe.

You can't teach that shit in 4 years to an old man. Guys like Stipe, Cormier, Khabib, Jon Jones - these top guys that have spent their whole lives wrestling are at a huge advantage in this sport. The greats always started young in every sport.

I guess he didn't train for getting wrestled? Even though he was fighting a wrestler? I think Ngannou believed his own hype and thought if he just touched him once it would be over. Seems like someone forgot to tell him he wasn't fighting Overeem...or Arlovski...and they also forgot to tell him those 2 had been knocked out several times already and he didn't exactly reinvent the wheel by ko'ing them.
Or just that they would both stand and trade punches with him just like he wanted. Stipes getting some shit for it being a boring fight, but props for showing a little fight iq, seeing that ngannou is kinda a one trick pony, and not just standing and exchanging punches with the so-called hardest puncher in the world

Agreed... treadmill is not even close to the same as actual running

Leading up to the fight the UFC was hyping like crazy about how ngannou was training at the UFC performance institute, where they have "the best trainers, nutritionalists, workout equipment and physical therapists."

The guy looked like he'd never been on a jog before... one of the worst cardio displays in years. What the hell kind of workouts are these expert trainers having this guy do? He comes in heavier than any previous fight, looking like he's been training to be a bodybuilder... did they recommend he avoid cardio? He was in terrible shape for a five round fight

I hear they exclusively use conor mcgregors patented FAST cardio system, which the fighters have to pay for themselves

That's not a training flaw, that's a fight IQ flaw. A guy that big swinging that hard and reckless is going to gas himself out quick, no matter how hard or good his training was.

I smell what you're stepping in. My main point was that Stipe has a great chin. The shots he took have slept other guys and he took several of them.

I always say the big punchers that fall in love with their power are primed for a fall. There's always that guy that can take it and swing back. That's what Ngannou ran into last night.

No wonder his cardio sucks... follow the cardio regiment of a guy known for gassing. Good plan

Yeah true. And also recognizing that boxing is his biggest strength, so make him do something else.

Hitting harder than a ford escort is way more marketable than running longer than this same car

True. That's why I was surprised he seemed to have bulked up between fights. He was already huge, but came in heavier and more muscular than ever. If anything, he should have been slimming down for a 5 round fight, no putting on more muscle.

There's a reason why 263 pound athletes don't feature in 10000m foot races

Stipe is probably used to breathing through a mask while in a smoking building. On top of his fight cardio regiment.

I'd guess it is way harder than it looks. Scuba and Snorkeling is somewhat hard since you have to force your breathing.

I think roadwork would be better than running on a platform that moves for you and eliminates the muscle usage of pushing your body.

Francis Ngannou "you know what happen when I connect", LMAO that poor guy connect with Ford Escort and nothing happen... Next time he should hit with bigger car. :D

I want to know what the intention of this institute truly is. Dana seems to harp on about how it's there, and only the truly wise competitors are taking advantage of it. What is it, a fully staffed institution of high level trainers just sitting around five days per week waiting for UFC fighters to walk in and make use of them? And it's funded as a philanthropic gesture by the UFC? Doesn't add up.

They use MMA math there, so it never adds up.
