Last night's UFC show on FOX on paper promised great action, and largely delivered.

But the promise of great fights didn't resonate with the audience.

The show, headlined by Dustin Poirier's second-round stoppage of Eddie Alvarez, did 1,461,000 viewers on the fast nationals, the lowest in the seven year-history of UFC on the network. While FOX did win the night in the key demos, overall 18-49 (0.6 rating) and 18-34 (0.4), as well as dominated in men's demos, the other three major networks had rerun programming on and still beat FOX for overall viewers.

The fast nationals measure FOX from 8-10 p.m., Eastern, 7-9 p.m. Central, and 6-8 p.m. Mountain time, but also measures 8-10 p.m. Pacific time because networks stagger prime time for more West Coast viewing.

However, for a live sports event, the Pacific time zone would be measured based on what programming the local stations aired from 8-10 p.m.

In addition, the main event ended at about 10:10 p.m., meaning most of the match was not measured. Still, no UFC on FOX has ever done less than the 1,593,000 fast nationals number for the Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza vs. Derek Brunson show in January, and this show was considered far stronger, although July is a much tougher month to draw.

There were three big matches on the main show, with Jose Aldo's first-round win over Jeremy Stephens and Joanna Jedrzejczyk's decision win over Tecia Torres. The number has to be a huge disappointment for a card that featured Alvarez, with a long history of great fights and being a former champion in both UFC and Bellator, Aldo, one of the greatest fighters in UFC history, and Jedrzejczyk, who was considered a superstar as the longtime strawweight champion.

UFC is dying to death.

UFC is dead, Fertittas conned WME, grass is green, etc.

This time next year we could all be pretending we are hardcore and knowledgeable on a Bellator forum.

I always wondered, why do they air this fights saturday night?

Wouldn't sunday be a better bet?

The UFC is now perceived as boring and stale. It's a convergence of multiple factors, and is going to take some time and hard work to correct.

Does the UFC even promote these kinds of events? I don’t watch a lot of cable TV honestly but even when I do, I NEVER see commercials for any upcoming UFC event unless I’m watching FS1. And even that is a rare sighting.

That is not a UFC but Fox thing

We knew the last of the Fox era would go out with a whimper, but that card deserved better

Its funny because even though it was on fox I still watched a stream of it online

So blame me

Too many big fights canceled last minute this year are still fresh in everyone’s minds. Not a lot of promo action on Fox’s end maybe.

I'm having a little trouble understanding your OP.

It says "but also measures 8-10 p.m. Pacific time because networks stagger prime time for more West Coast viewing."

I watched the fights last night, in CA (PST), and the event started at 5pm, so if they were measuring between 8-10pm, which was probably some NASCAR replay or some shit, then it doesn't make sense.

Lastly, I think the time difference is what can account for the low ratings, at least with the PST. I guarantee it would've done better numbers if it was in it's usual time slot. Most people in the Pacific Time Zone are still out and about at 5pm where it's sunny and 85 degrees outside, and given that 99% of events start at 7pm, I'm betting a lot of people just missed it. I almost did because I just assumed it started at 7pm - however, luckily I double checked the UFC website - which I doubt casuals are going to do - nor are they going to make it a point to get home by 5 to watch UFC on Fox.

It's summer, most 18-49 year olds are outside drinking beer and trying to get laid.

I’m sure Fox isn’t doing a ton to build up an offering they won’t have in six months.

How is the advertisement from FOX nowadays? I mean, they know that UFC will end up at ESPN....
