I don't much start threads in the heavies but this one needs its moment.

Old timers, remember them days?
When Royce would come in and pull some crafty sub the announcers couldn't figure, and most fighters couldn't defend?

How brutal it was early on, and every guy in the crowd was a Just Bleed Guy, and striking was more straightforward, not so technical?
Like the UFC was a glamorized county tough man contest with more rules?

How exciting it was... without the silly media drama, without guys trying to out-pretty each other, and the trash talk was less about stealing from Ali?

And you traded VHS tapes of fights like it was some secret underground fight club?

Let's go back in time, it was a rough time for the promotion, but it felt more genuine back then...

What qualifications do you have to meet to be an old head? I've been watching MMA about half my life. Does that count?

No trading VHS tapes because they were in the back room at the video store. Porn and UFC. Now Pride fights were harder to come by.

I remember ordering UFC 2.

In the Niagara area, you had to go to McLean Hunter and pick up the box. Rent it for 3 days.

Awww, the memories.

VHS? Whats that?
How old are you!?!?

I bet there was a lot of Pride videos back in that back room too. Just not THAT Pride..

I remember watching Pride fights on FSSW (I think) at 3 am when I was in high school. Those were prime Wanderlei days. I thought he was bulletproof.

4 or 5 years ago I've downloaded and watched the first 10 UFC events and wow that was quite a ride. I've been following MMA by that time (first MMA fight I've ever watched was Fedor vs Randleman) but that was something DIFFERENT.

I knew only that Royce won the first couple of them, which added to the thrill. I totally recommend it to everyone who haven't seen it yet, especially if you don't know the outcomes of each fight.

I miss those days. I remember renting UFC 9 and being super excited to watch it. Even though the event was held months before my video store got it.

There was something raw about the old days that the new events seem to be missing.

I specifically am reaching out to guys my age, who heard about this crazy cage fighting thing going on, every dude on the block would pile into your living room to watch Gary Goodridge drop elbows into a cheekbone until it collapsed, on a poorly recorded dead format.

But no disrespect to any fan of the sport, at all.

You heard about fights for months before you got a chance to see them.
When you watched fights, half the time you were thinking, "How can this be allowed to happen?"

Forty six as of Friday.
My little girl is a ten year oldTKD demon

I did not know people that old could get on the internet.
Thats fucked up :(

How did you manage to get a demon daughter???
I think we need a MB thread on that.... ... .....!!

Me and two buddies ordered UFC II, watched it in his basement apartment. Good times.
I remember the adds in Black Belt Magazine asking to submit tapes to enter the contest.
My friends were trying to get me to do it.

What a thrilling time.

No.

Yes the unified rules suck. its turned MMA into a point fight. most fighters throw a 1-2 strike combo and its tit for tat, then they reset. back in the day people threw down.
