Only 20% of the purse is ridiculous

The penalty for missing weight must be more severe, otherwise in the near future 100% of the fighters who are prospects will miss weight on purpose to have a big advantage so they can ensure they keep winning to stay relevant

Something like if you miss weight 20% of the purse and -1 point for the fight, seems fair considering it's cheating like eye-poking for example

No,

Fuck off, let the fighters weigh whatever they want.

Just bleed bro.

It would also be helpful if the UFC didn't reward fighters that missed weight with a title shot...

The biggest penalty against a combat athlete it Father Time, if you really want them to stop missing weight, introduce a 3-6 month suspension to begin after their medical suspension is up.. That will get these young bloods to stay honest..

Thought it was 30%?

Agreed you're right. I thought wonderboys stipulation was good though.

Legit think that's the way forward.

Tons of fighters fight only every 3-6 months at best anyways. Take more of their money away. You could see how much guys hate losing their money by watching how differently they would fight after getting yellow carded in pride.

He took it on short notice. So while I agree there should be a punishment for not making the contracted weight and am not absolving Romero of his deserved blame here the UFC should have all short notice replacement fights fought at a catchweight regardless

It prevents people coming in overweight, allows the fighter taking the fight to actually train instead of spending their limited camp just cutting weight, and makes the fight fair to the original fighter because they now don't have to worry about cutting as much weight

The problem is, if they take away enough of the fatty's purse, the fatty says screw it, I'm not fighting for that and calls it off.

Do you think Till would have fought if they took away 50% of his purse? And then maybe for good measure no win bonus if he wins? No, the fight is off, and to the UFC that is even worse than punishing fighters.

Yeah 20% is a joke. It's like NSAC penalizing Conor Mcgregor for 75k when he's making millions off his can throwing stunt.

I like Dolce's plan

Different situation than Till.

Romero took the fight on short notice to save the card.

He'd also never missed weight before in his entire competitive career as an MMA fighter or a wrestler, and he was next in the rotation anyway.

I agree. The best deterrent is hurting fighters pockets. I know it sounds ugly, these guys already don't make what they deserve, but that is not the issue.

The point is it works, and fighters who have missed weight are undefeated. It's an obvious advantage that is affecting rankings, and it needs to be put in check before it continues to be abused.

50% and can't move up rankings or fight for the belt in next fight...

Some of them don't make nearly what they deserve. Others don't deserve nearly what they make.
Well that's a topic for another day, you get my point though right?
