It's interesting to see that Frank Shamrock was the only UFC Lineal Light Heavyweight Champion (then called Middleweight) until he left the company in 1999, while other lineal champions continued the lineage while on different organizations.

What if the lineal title did not cease with Frank's departure in the UFC?

Frank Shamrock < Renzo Gracie (def Shamrock at EliteXC: Destiny) < Matt Hughes (def Gracie at UFC 112 & Almeida at UFC 117) < BJ Penn (def Hughes at UFC 123 and drew with Fitch at UFC 127) < Nick Diaz (def Penn at UFC 137) < Carlos Condit (def Diaz at UFC 143) < GSP (def Condit at UFC 154)

Apparently GSP is the UFC Lineal Light Heavyweight Champion

Technically, should the LHW title really pass hands when the fight is not being fought in that weight class?

Lineal doesn't really work that way.

It also doesn't really mean anything, its just some interesting trivia.

So GSP has something (LHW CHAMPIONSHIP) that Anderson is too afraid to get?

When Shamrock LEFT the UFC he gave up the belt so he is in fact NOT part of the Linear championship anymore.

These lineal things are more ridiculous than p4p lists.

It's cool as trivia, but I can't stand when people hold it up as an accomplishment.

Besides, the only lineal belt that means something is the saku belt, because it trancended weightclasses.

But you could follow one of those lineages for ANY of the fighters who beat ANY fighter in the chain.

Lineal works almost however you count it personally. if you only count at wait there is no lineal champ from Shamrocks belt.

if count out of weight you get crazy shit like Jones being lineal LW champ. GSP has most WW belts lineally.

Very interesting and as long as x fighter was the first to beat y fighter in between fights (such as if they had a string of losses) it totally makes sense. Couldn't it be argued instead that GSP is the lineal MW champion (even if the weight doesn't match) though? Maybe that's why Anderson was so interested in a post-Condit GSP.

Renzo beat Shamrock , and Hughes beat Royce so how does the Lhw crown go anywhere after Renzo. This conversation is stupid.
