The UFC's positioning in this McGregor situation right now is brilliant. People keep going on and on about the UFC "losing so much money " by not having Conor on UFC 200, when they're actually SAVING money down the road. The only reason McGregor was going to fight Nate Diaz to begin with is because he was so "obsessed" over it. Another McGregor loss would have probably deflated rest of his hype and end kill off So, now that fight wont take place they will save their cash cow, return him to a smaller weight at which he can dominate or fair better in, which is clearly a lot safer booking than having your most popular star fight two weight classes above against an opponent who handed him his first UFC loss. If the UFC has any interest in preserving the celebrity that is Conor McGregor, than keeping him away from Nate Diaz is their best bet as of right now.

Also as I continue to reiterate, the UFC is NOT on the brink of bankruptcy so please stop acting McGregor not being on one card is going to kill the sport and the company.

Thanks for clearing this up. I was genuinely concerned about Dana's kids not having any snow in the driveway this year.

I hope Nate got something for wasting his time at that press conference.

Well put. Sure, Diaz vs Conor would sell and be a big payday, but once Diaz slap n taps Conor again, his stock goes wayyyy down. Instead, the UFC and Conor are happy to duck this fight and send Conor back to fighting midgets where he stands a chance. This way, there could be more potential big paydays in the future.

You forgot to mention one thing, with all the rumors of the UFC selling they'll need their buyrates to be as high as possible to sell for the amount wanted.

MgG never asked for that rematch
This rematch was "schedulled" ONLY to make it look as conor wanted it LOL
NOw UFC helps him veil the duck to keep the hype up
so sad...

With the way people are talking about how much money the UFC is losing by not putting Connor back on the card you would think that's all anyone cares about. Some guys was even crunching the numbers comparing Jones and Connors draw.

I didnt know you had constant contact with both McGregor and the UFC...

Conor's next fight will still be against Nate Diaz at 201 or 202.

being saying it for weeks
every episode of this ducking drama confirms it
fight is not happening at all
conor depressed
dana in desperation as his cash cow runs out of milk

It's cost Conor a lot of popularity that is for sure. He was the one who insisted on rematching Diaz then backed out, citing some baloney reasons. I don't blame him, its too soon, but he should not have made it in the first place.

Guys who get popular are usually smaller for their classes, Manny or Mayweather. Conor has called his weight class midgets and is clearly one of the largest...so what does that say about his career?

Sure JBJ is big but a lot of guys are close. With FW McG is way bigger.

He should probably fight at LW.

I hope Nate got something for wasting his time at that press conference.

$100 a day for food.

TS is right but not sure for those reasons. If the UFC let Conor blow off his obligations the rest of the roster pitches a fit and rightfully so. I think they're already a bit put off by UFC practices as it is. Dissension in the ranks would grow. Not good for business or future negotiations all around.

TLDR but I'll post my opinion anyway...

In my opinion, the UFC has terrible positioning in this McGregor situation. Everyone's talking about how the UFC are saving money by not allowing Conor to lose to Nate and by not setting bad precedent, but they're actually LOSING money because Conor will beat Nate, and the precedent doesn't matter because no one as good as Conor will ever come along again. The reason they booked Conor/Nate 2 in the first place is because it makes the most sense and everyone was calling for it, so they should stick to their plan. Even if McGregor somehow lost the rematch, that'd just set up a 3rd fight at MSG. And it's a better option than going back to 145, where Conor has to cut so much weight, when instead he could just fight Nate, whom he'll beat. So, if the UFC wants to maintain or continue to grow Conor's star power, they should book him to fight Nate.

And I'm sick of repeating myself on this, but the UFC is on the verge of bankruptcy, so people should stop pretending they don't need Conor on UFC 200 to stay afloat and keep the sport alive.

There is an awful lot of assumption in that post ( by assumption i mean stuff you have made up in your own head) and you know what assumption does.
