UFC is dying

Worst it’s ever been and I say that as a longtime dedicated fan. Two major issues as to why in my opinion.

-Terrible matchmaking. No vision for match ups to create compelling contenders. Frequent rematches and unearned title shots with stagnant divisions.

-Bloated roster. You could cut half the roster today and nobody would care. So many low stakes fights filling up majority of cards. Filling the quota of cards instead of putting on quality events.

Some teams sold less than 1/3 of capacity, 2/3+ empty seats.
The lowest performing club last year averaged 15.5k seats on an arena that holds 18k. That's pretty impressive that that's the WORST club.

The only 1/3rd capacity is a few of the teams that play in NFL stadiums during their off-season, but those stadiums intentionally don't sell/staff the 300 and 400 section is it's moot anyways (the stadium isn't actually available for that capacity).
MLS sold over 11 million tickets last year. UFC held 42 events the same year, only 24 being held in the US.
MLS and WSL combined is around 2.5 billion a year in revenue and participation is strong at the high school/college level.

I know "*in the US" is a mock on Dana but the funny thing is it might not actually be more popular in the US. Shows how mediocre the UFC has gotten

NFL tickets cost 5 times as much as MSL

Nobody is saying MLS or UFC is comparable in money/popularity to the NFL so I don't care?

The 2 American soccer leagues do 2.5 billion in year revenue, sell over 10 million tickets, and have really strong participation at the youth/college level. It might actually be more popular than the UFC which is the butt of the joke.

Mods should really just start merging all the whiney Jones threads and all the UFC is dying threads into one. Front page will be damn clean.

Agreed on both accounts.

The bloated roster has really devalued what it means to be a UFC fighter imo. They sign whoever will accept their deals and pass on some of the best fighters in the world who won't accept base offers. They should pass on signing a lot of the fighters they have and save that up to make better offers for some of the best fighters in the world.

That would also mean they could put on stronger fight cards instead of the watered down excess.

It’s definitely going through a transition. As a fan, I feel like there’s a real lack of big fights lately. I used to watch every card—now I barely catch the PPV main events, and I haven’t actually bought one in so long I can’t even remember. I’m the kind of hardcore fan that helped turn this into a multi-billion dollar business, so if I’m tuning out, I can only imagine where the casuals are at

You think the constant spamming of social media posts from random celebrities during fights is for hardcore fight fans? That hardcore fans want to know what the latest Endeavor actress is saying about who just got a 10-9 round? As if their publicists are not just sending out a fake social media posts in coordination with the UFC?
I've always hated that from day one. I've been watching since the 90's I'm not going to stop now but yeah the twitter between rounds and sports betting shit hasn't done any good.

I agree with both points. Like Merab vs O'Malley 2. What are the odds it isn't exactly like the first time they fought.

Yo- where did you get that pic of @Poirierfan ?

Thats gotta be him with the Dustin Poirier hotsauce and the fleur de lis on the shirt!!

______
Hey Buddy-

How was the Matt Hughes County Breakfast energy drink?
It actually does kinda resemble me ever so sligtly. Haha

This is a very low point for sure. A bunch of women fighting lately and a dog shit main event that nobody asked for next week. Luckily we got some monster main events in the coming months.

lets be honest fedor is boring by amercan standards but he fights with passion so just because some of ufc fighters are not boring in press conferences but boring to watch that is ufc problem for marketing them like JJ nd others
No one is going to complain about a boring personality if they fight like Fedor.

The problem is so many are boring in AND out of the octagon.

Think Ankalaev, Edwards, Brady, Gamrot, Evloev, and so many more.

well that is a thing UFC IS promoting exiting figters in everything but octagon but even bigger problem is if somebody beats them they are right away made to be boring or dana is visibly upset his press conference idiot lost how will he promote next fight if other guy is quiet but fights good

I bet most Americans can't name one single American soccer player.

I'd say at least 50 million people in the US could name one American player. The yearly active participation in leagues alone is almost half that and it also helps that there's a handful of women US soccer players that are extremely popular. UFC most of their casual stars since Covid aren't even American anyways so weird thing to bring up (Khabib, Islam, McGregor, Alex Pereira).

US soccer is going to be more like the NHL where the popularity is more spread out, NHL doesn't run on mega stars or flavor of the month players.

I think Rizin will replace the UFC as the premier mma organization.
