Mildly surprised by the Davis, Azure, and Marques cuts.
Davis had a bad skid there for a while but was coming off a win and is a decent gatekeeper the WMMA division that IMO has the second shallowest talent pool. Though considering that bad loss streak and her age, it does make sense in hindsight that they wouldn't want to shell out to re-sign an old middling fighter just to test up-and-comers against.
Hunter Azure got a bit of a raw deal IMO. Dude went 2-2 in the UFC. Got a win, then experienced his first loss against Brian Kelleher after absolutely dominating Boom in the first round: stuffing all of his takedowns and outstriking him 36-to-10. He was also landing good combinations in the second before he started to gas, at which point Kelleher -- being the heavy-handed vet that he is -- clipped him and put him down. Picked up another win after that before getting his other loss in a fairly competitive Split Decision (really should have been Unanimous, to be fair) to undefeated Jack Shore of all people -- i.e. one of the hottest prospects at Bantamweight right now. The guys he beat on DWCS and in the UFC have records of 5-2, 7-2, and 10-2. I think he could have done with a little more time to see what he was capable of, but maybe this time outside the UFC to develop his skills and potentially return at a later date will do him good.
Marques got fucked up in his last two fights, but was thoroughly dominating Kennedy with his offensive grappling prior to the TKO. And Jailton is looking like a future world-beater in the eyes of many, so is there really any shame in losing to him? He was on a 2-win streak prior to that. LHW is a very thin division, especially when it comes to robust wrestlers/submission grapplers. Maybe his age was a contributing factor alongside his skid, but I feel like keeping him around to test the defensive grappling of incoming prospects/DWCS dudes would have been a good use of his talents.
