Ultimate hit the hammer about the date of its next edition in Rio de Janeiro. UFC Rio 9 is scheduled for May 12, a week before the organization's first card in Chile, according to Combate.com . The company even considered May 26, but the last weekend of May should have a UFC in Europe.

Ultimate's plan follows that of having Cris Cyborg vs. Amanda Nunes for the featherweight belt (up to 66kg) as the card's main fight. Negotiations are underway, but they are mainly focused on Cris's willingness to escalate to an event with greater potential for selling pay-per-view packages. There is still no confirmation of the arena that will receive the card.

The last time Ultimate landed in Rio de Janeiro in June last year, Max Holloway won the men's featherweight title by beating Jose Aldo in the main event.

In addition to the cards in Rio de Janeiro, May 12, Santiago, May 19, and in Europe the last weekend of May, the UFC also plans a card in Denmark for the month of July.

Looks like UFC goes to a lot of new places this year.

Chile seems random as fuck. Colombia, Peru, and Argentina all have UFC fighters who have had success in the UFC, why not go there? Plus Ponz and Shevy (yes, just coined that) could EASILY headline a fight night/fight pass card (not so much the guy or 2 from Colombia).

And I'm fairly ignorant as to the economics of Latin American countries, but I would think Argentina for sure and possibly Peru are the bigger economic hubs (bigger in tourism for sure).

EDIT: Not sure about the legality in those 3 countries though

Aw yeah!

Trinaldo vs felder 2 main event incoming!

It is said UFC also goes to Argentina later this year.

Chile probably has the best economy and is the most stable country in South America. It has the best GDP per capita, least government corruption, etc.

From what i heard, they are going to Argentina in the second half of the year.

100% a economic focused decision. Chile is the richest country in South America by a per capita analysis, not only that but Santiago is a wealthy city itself and doesn't matter that much if a fighter is from Peru, Colombia or Chile, being from South America everyone in Santiago will support them, be sure about that..
Not only that, but Chile is well known for small taxes so many fighters will want to fight there, Chas Skelly for example already asked to be in that card.
Some fighters i expect to see there are Diego Rivas (CHL), Veronica Macedo (VZL), Enrique Barzola (PER), Humberto Bandenay (PER) and Guido Cannetti (ARG).

UFC RJ it's a PPV card. Either Nunes-Cyborg or RDA-Woodley probably.

Damn.. Santiago but not Buenos Aires? I might catch a flight there if the card is good.

MMA is legal here in Argentina. Arena Tour put pretty big shows often and we have a growing underground scene.

with extremely shitty cards

We are as passionate as they come when it comes to our teams and athletes.
