The "Ranked Fighters" are the worldwide numbers, not just the UFC.

To explain what the "Adjusted Fights" column means I'll use Women's Strawweight as an example:

There are 50 ranked fighters in the division.
Which means the division represents 1.4% of all ranked fighters in the world.
For equal representation, that means the division should account for 1.4% of all fights.
1.4% of all fights in the UFC equals 6; the division is grossly over-represented at the moment since it had 34 fights in 2017.

TLDR: The adjusted column shows how many fights the division should have based on how many ranked fighters exist in the division.

So 444 total fights in a year, even though their roster is over 500? Average person fights less than twice per year.

Source please?
Data I collected on my own and FightMatrix' database.

I'm...confused
Hey look... a bunch of numbers.

Does that make a little more sense?

According to the UFC's own website, they have 681 fighters.

I like numbers & I am confused

But I'll go with "good job" on effort alone ;)

I edited the original post to include an explanation of what the adjust column means; is it still confusing?

A bit, but I applaud the effort (seriously)

I don't get the 3540 sum

There are 50 ranked fighters in the Women's Strawweight division.

There are a total of 3,540 ranked fighters in the world.

50 of 3,540 is 1.4%.

If you applied that percentage to the number of fights the UFC had in 2017, that would equal 6 fights.

If there were 6 fights total, in the UFC for the year of 2017, in the Women's Strawweight division, that would be an equal representation of what that division represents in terms of number of fighters.

However, that division had 34 fights in 2017 (or 7.7% of the total fights) in the UFC; hence that division is currently over-represented.

The adjusted column shows how many fights the division should have based on how many ranked fighters exist in the division.

Gotcha
I would have gone with just UFC alone (as far as signed fighters per division) to see what number they signed & how that correlates to the amount of fights.
That way it is all within their wheelhouse

Good stuff/effort my man

I didn't want to use the UFC's numbers because their recruitment habits would affect the outcome (i.e. They probably recruit more women than they do Flyweights).

Edit: Just checked, the UFC has the same number of Women's Strawweights as they do Men's Flyweights, despite Men's Flyweights outnumbering Women's Strawweights by five times, in the world.

OK, but you titled it "UFC division representation"
I understand why, but to see how UFC utilizes their fighters, IMO its best to keep it in context to UFC.
Not complaining, just stating why I was confused at the 3k+ number

Okay, I understand what you were trying to do, but just to clarify a couple points...

What does 250 for heavyweights mean? There's not 250 ranked HW fighters, there wasn't 250 HW fights (over the course of the year). Is 34 fights the number of events held throughout the year?

Look at the UFC's own roster. They still claim Bellator fighters as their own, Tuesday Night Contender Series fighters, suspended fighters, fightes with zero UFC fights and no scheduled fights upcoming... hell they have a WW listed as "To Be Determined" with no record, personal information or picture, lol.

I'd wager the actual roster is far below that number.

The number of ranked fighters in the world. I compared representation of the divisions worldwide with that of division activity in the UFC.
